Kershaw Junkyard Dog II vs. Spyderco Endura 4

This is a question for those of you who have both knives: how would you compare them, and which one would you prefer? I consider one for carry, with some limited utility chores like cutting papers/boxes.

The Junkyard Dog II would be with a plain edge, and Endura with either plain or a SpyderEdge and black FRN. Also for people with the Endura 4 Wave version – do you like it, does it catch the pocket edge as intended?

Thank you, all info is greatly appreciated!

Both great knives.

The Wave on the Endura 4 Wave may even be better than the original Waves on Emerson knives. It's excellent -- deep and smooth in action. And you CAN open bottles with it. :)

Unless you have a lot of rope to cut, if you get an Endura, go with a plain edge, too.

I handled a JYD recently, the smaller, ti framelock version. Great grip, smooth action, and I like the blade shape.

Both are great knives.....the JYD2 is noticabely thicker in profile/heavier than the Endura4 and is Righty tip down clip only..... can't really go wrong with either.....the wave works great but is hard on yer pockets.... ;)

Can't say anything about the junkyard, I'm sure it's a great knife, but I think the Endura is excellent, and the wave is great. Very easy to use and, as someone above mentioned, great for opening bottles in a pinch!

I think my waved Endura is great, works like it's supposed to and can't beat it for the price...

Both knives are on the top, but IMHO JYDII is better.

1. Thiner edge, more comfortable for use.
2. Excellent handle way, way ahead of endura in comfort and security. I say it is superior to any handle on that market now.

It seems with making Endura stronger they make edge too thick, this is why I regrind my Delica and going to regring Endura also.

Thanks, Vassili.

For me, the flat ground blade of the JYDII is a better slicer. It's a little bit big for me but a great knife that's smooth as butter and I loves me some flipper!! You'll be suprized how good the Sandvic steel is too. I love Spyderco knives but of the two, i'd pick the JYDII hands down. (can't comment on the wave, just not my thing)

Thanks to all people who provided valuable opinions. Now I just need to locate a local shop where I can fondle all of the above mentioned babes. JYD II could be difficult to find locally though…

You could always get the JYDII online at a place that takes returns. They will charge you for shipping, but it is probably pretty cheap. Not a bad option if you are not crazy about the Endura.
I do have an Endura 4, ZDP steal, and I love it, but if you are using it for a while, the handle is real rough on the hands

Well the knife that sees the most pocket time for me is a titanium handled JYDII with SG2 blade, I really like the JYDII it has great ergos and a nice belly on the blade, I own a couple of spydercos and they are made pretty well, I do not own the endura so I can't give you a direct comparison. I'm sure you will be happy with either one, good luck and welcome to Blade Forums
