I was thinking about getting one of these knives for EDC.

Ideally, I would want a Zero Tolerance 0200, but I can't afford it.

I see the larger JYD is a liner lock.

On another forum people said it had soft steel that quickly dulled.

What are your opinions on this knife and the blade style, locking mechanism, etc, and which models of the JYD2 are the best?

The purpose is CCW and other small cutting tasks.

the JYD is a great knife. one of my favorite kershaws. if you are concerned with edge retention i would suggest the composite blade model (with a CPM-D2 cutting edge)

I'm not so concerned about edge retention, but I like the compostie blade.

Right now I'm carrying a lockback Puma 270.
I don't like how I need 2 hands to open it and it's got no clip.

How does the lockback on my knife compare to the strength of the liner lock?
I've only had lockbacks.

Thanks.

the liner lock is very strong. it will be closed easier and faster than a lockback, as well as being easier to clean. I love the knife, but i would recommend going with the CPM D2 version. it looks really cool and is generally a better quality product. I would recommend a blem. blems are knives with scratches, dents, and little nicks in coating that make them unacceptable for the new market, but are considerably cheaper. they are fully functional. check it out.

My experience with 4 Kershaws is that they all had very strong liner locks. I'm confident in them.

I just started to edc my JYD2, i really like it, but the clip is kinda big. great knife and the cb is awesome

The liner lock on this knife is thicker than many frame locks. It is also backed up, with a g10 scale. This should provide enough strength for anything you could safely do with any other folder. I personally don't like liiner locks but i have no issues with this knife.

I like the CB version. I can't imagine having an issue with the sandvick steels. I lyike the 13c26 and the 14c28n is an upgrade. I have not heard any complaints about either being soft.

There might be a newer release with a small clip.

Btw, they have very good handles. After using the cpm-d2, g10 version, i purchased a Ti sg2 blem, and then a JYD I for regular carry.

The clip is easy to remove from most Kershaw's, and a few minutes on a bench grinder followed by sanding and it can be made much less, umm, obtrusive. There is lots of metal to work with on the JYD II's clip. Or there are custom replacement clips available. Either way, the clip shouldn't prevent you from buying a good knife.

The JYDII has been my edc knife for over a year now.I have used it for everything from food prep to carpentry work and also does duty when I lead river trips. It takes a great edge and is easy to sharpen.I dont regret having at all and my JD has done all I have asked of it.

If you can get past the corny pocket clip and strange name IMO theres no reason not to like the JYDii also like previous posters have stated if I were you I'd opt for the Composite Blade not only does it look cool but increases edge retention.

Clip isn't the greatest. I'd personally like a finger choil in front of the flipper (think I saw a modded JYDII with this) and mine has rust problems on the liners. Funny that it's not the D2 rusting but the "stainless" steel. Other than that it's a decent knife.

I keep a JYD II CB in my truck just in case I get out and need something heavier then what I might have on me. I have a Ti version in my EDC rotation. Great knives and the CB version is very robust.
