I recently picked one of these up at the kershaw sale and I really dig it! I am surprised Kershaw has discontiued it:thumbdn::confused:

I've handled about a half dozen and every single one had fit and finish issues. The clip is also a bit... Ridiculous. Also, tip-down only.

I'd love to see it brought back with KVT, a tip-up clip, and better attention to detail. It may have been discontinued, however, due to it being a collaboration with the original designer and that agreement may have expired. That's pure speculation, however.

I like my quite a bit, even though I don't carry it much anymore. I did a few modifications, G-10 scales, added a finger choil and worked on the clip a little. It's a little heavy, and I do prefer tip up. It really is a good knife though. Great score nature!

First non assisted production flipper that I remember worked without wrist action.

Good knife, truly ugly mall-Ninja style clip, no tip up carry. I bought one despite the negatives. Love it but have almost never carried it.
Someday i'll get it drilled and tapped for tip up carry with a new clip and maybe some custom grips, until then it stays in storage.

I used to have one of the 1720s back before it was discontinued, I really regret getting rid of it. The blade was great, it flipped nicely considering the lack of assist, the handle was great, and I usually carried it without the pocket clip anyway. I still keep an eye out for them but the only ones I've seen are crazily inflated in price and usually combo edge. I hope they bring the smaller one back!

I've come close to picking up one of the iterations of JYD several times and always backed off. I just can't get over the worst pocket clip in the history of knife pocket clips :barf:

I had one of the originals 10-15 years ago. It was ok but I hated the clip. I gave it away.

Tim Galyean was present at the factory sale over the weekend per my inquiry of an employee there on Friday who could not describe him. I was not able to meet him, unfortunately. Did anyone? I wonder if he is still a Kershaw employee.

Tim Galyean is the designer of the JYD, this borrowed from our dear friends at BHQ:

"Tim has been making custom knives since 2004. In 2001, he started as a machinist for Kershaw Knives (a job to get himself through college) and worked his way into the Research and Development Department. Since his initial introduction to knives in 2001, Tim (with encouragement from Ken Onion) has found an outlet for his artistry." http://www.bladehq.com/cat--Galyean-Tim--1410

I have a JYII. Perfect fit and finish on mine. Really a nice knife, except...

The clip is laughable--tip down only and embarrassingly fugly. Absolutely the worst clip design in the history of the universe. Reminds me of a bat wing cross bred with a Buick.

Ahhhh hyperbole, gotta love it.

The clip is fine. More positively, the JYD is almost indistinguishable from early Zero Tolerance models in weight, build quality, and fit and finish. I have the all black model, and it is absolutely the same quality piece as my (also all black) ZT 0350.

Sad to hear there being dico'ed. Its the knife that started my knife addiction... made me love cpm d2 steel.

Ahh, I thought I was the only one.
I like the clip just fine. It is exceedingly positive in holding the knife in the pocket. If people think the look of the clip outlandish and prefer the generic look of most other clips, its a very little job on the grinder to take the points on the sides down.
Super smooth as owl snot opening and that without assist.
Fit and finish very good IMO.
Tip down - gotta love it.

The JYD was also one of the first Kershaws (along with the almost unattainable Offset etc) that I remember holding and saying to myself, wow this thing is a tank. It had a liner as thick as the ZT200.
