Hi All,
I got some good advice when I posted about the JYD, and I bought the big'un.
Well, I loved the big one so much that I wished I could legally carry it, so I bought the small one online on sale! Neat!
I really like the small one too. Without the add-on scales it's VERY slim. The flipper works even better on the small blade.
The cons are the usual: the clip is flashy and not a deep-carry type.
I wouldn't mind another 1/4" on the handle, but the proportions appear to be preserved between the two, so it's a minor point. The rivet decorations/grip surface is pretty cool, but I could do without the Air Force markings. I don't have anything against the Air Force, but neither am I affiliated in any way, so it feels inappropriate for me. Maybe I'll polish them off.
The edge grinds are a smidge asymmetrical on both knives, but I don't think anything is compromised. I started stropping both of them on a fine squishy nail file to start convexing the edges and smoothing out the tool marks.
All in all, both feel like very well-made knives. I like the design at both scales, and I'm happy to have USA-made knives (since I live here).
Cheers,
