I bought a JYD II with composite edge ( 13C26/D2) a couple of months ago. I've been using it a lot, and it finally got dull. I've been trying to sharpen it, but I just doesn't get really sharp. It can cut my arm's hair, but there's just something missing in its sharpness. I can't get it hair popping sharp. My question is, do any of you experience this ? Or there's something wrong with its D2 blade ?

I know how to sharpen knives. I use DMT coarse grit, DMT medium grit, Norton India smooth stone for removing the burr.

On most of my knives in D2, if I don’t like the factory edge, I will think it out a bit. Put a micro bevel on it and then rough the edge just a little. Since I’ve found that it cuts best with a slightly more toothy edge.

CPM D2 is a little different animal than D2 as it will cut very well with a polished edge. Try to get the edges bevel as close to factory as possible. I took mine down to about 17 and it gets popping sharp. This is using diamond, paper wheel then strop. The real secret to keeping all steels sharp is to touch it up everyday after use so it never really gets dull.

I've been doing that with my edc/ work blade the Sog Aegis touching it up after each shift where it gets used lots each day. Good to hear that, that is a recommended procedure.

I haven't experienced any issues getting mine sharp. On the other hand I never let it get really dull. My first thought would be to look at the edge with a magnifying glass ,check for chips or a curled edge. To get it really sharp you need to get the edge polished which means fine stones.

I agree. I keep my Sharpmaker assembled for just that reason. It usually only takes about 5 to 10 strokes on each side to bring the edge back up.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try the smooth stone and start touching it up after use. I appreciate it.
