Hey all,

I am pretty sure I am getting a LEEK thanks to the positive comments and reviews I have read here.
I am also thinking about getting a bigger knife as well. Maybe just for a change from carrying my Endura and Delica.
The other day at Wally World as I was looking at the LEEK, I also saw another Assisted Opener in the case, it was the BLUR. It was the Black one with the Tanto point and half serrated blade. Of course I had to check it out. I liked the feel of the knife and it was bigger than the LEEK. It feels and looks like a beefy knife. It seemed that the opening motion with the thumb would take more practice than the LEEK would before it would be really comfortable. All in all, I did think it was a nice knife.

I notice that there isn't as much talk about the BLUR as there is about the LEEK. I would like to know what you all think of the BLUR. How would you all rate it as an everyday carry knife, does it stand up to use? If you were going to get an Assisted Opener that had a blade larger than 3 inches, what would you get?

So what do you all think of the BLUR? Is it a good choice or should I be looking at something else for a BIGGER BROTHER to the LEEK?

Thanks again everyone for the advice and help.

I think the blur is a pretty nice knife. I havent put mine though any hard use, but I suspect that this knife would hold up pretty well since it is all-metal. It is a very good value IMHO.

Now when you pose the question. "If you were going to get an Assisted Opener that had a blade larger than 3 inches, what would you get?" I think it would be one of these:

They arent out yet, but I know alot of people are looking forward to them.

I prefer the Blur. You might look at a Buck tempest as well, pretty much same size, better steel.(ATS34 version)

The Blur is a good knife, one of my favorite Kershaws actually. I don't like the tanto version though. You can get the clip point version online for around the same price as the tanto at Wal-Mart.

Kershaw's serrations aren't the best in the world, but they're pretty easy to keep sharp with a round file.

I've had a Blur for nearly two years now, and have carried it used it extensively as an EDC and on camping trips. It's gone on 5 day canoe trips/week long bike trips, backpacking, and on the road so I've given mine a pretty good workout. Mine is the plain edge recurve, not the tanto style so keep that in mind. Pluses are the assisted opening, the overall ergonomics, the handle, and the grip. The grip in particular is A+ in every respect (it will not slip in your hand when soaking wet in a canoe!), and the opening action is very handy while holding some object (meat, package, whatever) in one hand and using the knife with the other. The lock has never slipped on me either-once open it stays open. However, the blade does not hold an edge very well at all on mine-I believe it's 440A which doesn't stack up very well. It's easy enough to touch it up but it loses the edge quickly in my experience. I use a sharpmaker when at home, and a diamond drystone in the field. I also managed to snap off the last 1/8" of the tip by leaving it in my trousers and running it through the wash-it popped open somehow and caught the interior of the machine drum. Not a big deal really, I carefully reground the tip and wetstoned it back to an edge and now it's OK. Overall it's a good usable folder but since WalMart is now carrying the Native for less money I would have second thoughts myself. Or get both, there's worse ways to spend $100.

I like everthing about the blur Except the blade steel 440. Personally I agree with SAMHAIN 73, I would go with the tempest ATS-34 steel. They are comparable in price, and you get a way better blade.
