I've never been a huge fan of smaller folding knives. Most of mine tend toward 3+ inches, easily. I guess I never thought they were all that useful or some other hair-brained notion.
Anyway, I recently went out hunting for something for my groomsmen. Of course, being a knife knut, I went for something shiney and engraveable. Walking into my local B&M store, I found a few nice Swiss Army Knives for 3 of my guys. However, as that was all they had of them, I looked around for something for my best man.
I ran across the Kershaw Ken Onion Chive. I instantly loved it upon holding and opening it (speed safe rox!). So, picking one up for my best man, I decided that one should find a matching place in my pocket. And it has.
This little knife is really quite cool. It stays sharp, using it just for little EDC tasks...envelopes, tape, string, clothing tags, etc. I really like the small size, but big cutting feel and quick deployment (you never know when you gotta jump one of them pieces of string, or when one will get the drop on you!). It has found a place in my pocket everyday.
I'm still not quite used to the size, so I usually have something bigger (REKAT Pioneer II, CRKT Point Guard, etc) tucked in or strapped on elsewhere.
At the end, I've found that a little knife doesn't always mean little cutting, and that is why size doesn't always matter...well, not for everything.
