Kershaw Ken Onion Designs Knife Handles

I have a Blur SV130 with the rubber inserts on the black aluminum frame and a Scallion with the textured black plastic scales. I personally prefer the grip security these provide compared to my all steel Leek and Chive. I note that the Leek, Chive and Shallot so far as I can determine do not currently offer versions with grip enhancing scales or frame inserts unfortunately.

I would like to see versions of all of the Ken Onion Kershaw knife designs with one of those options available. If not available from Kershaw does anyone do overlay thin scales for the all steel Leek and Shallot knife designs?

I know the leek can be had with handle scales (I like the smoke blue) but I can't say for sure about the Shallot. I traded my plain Leek because it was just too small/slick but the black Shallot I just got is great. You could always cut some skateboard tape and apply it to your Leek and Shallot, that would act like the Trac-Tek inserts on the Blur.

I found a G10 Leek with SV30 blade from an Amazon selling dealer, the last he had in stock. Not sure about whether the scales are textured or smooth as not specified but I went ahead and ordered it. Seems to currently be a scarce knife as this dealer was the only Amazon dealer who had it listed as available so I presume that it was a limited run item.

If you paid under $100 it is more than likely the standard G10 leek, which has been discontinued.

They are textured and they just discontinued that version. I find the black coated models have much more grip than the non coated ones. I have seen people use skate tape/ non skid tape as a grip enhancer on non coated models of the leek and shallot before. That is actualy what they used on the blur befor they created the trac-tek inserts of today.

My Leek with the G-10 scales arrived today. Very high grip textured surface on the G-10 scales for excellent grip. The knife is about 1/8" or 3mm thicker than the all steel version. This makes the thumb actuator opening studs on the blade about useless as they are shorter than the knife body thickness on this version. They are the same width as on the blade of the all steel knife version.
