Thinking about buying this knife. Any comments on this knife good or bad? Didn't find to much when I did a search

The scallion is one of my favorite little knives. I've never had a sheeple comment on it and the speedsafe spring is fun to play with while following your wife around during shopping excursions. It's small enough to be low key, but big enough to cut most things. A bright color would be even less threatening.

I took the clip off mine so that it was smaller in my pocket and easier to hold in my hand. I'm also a fan of tip up carry, so I didn't like the clip anyway.

I have yet to sharpen mine so I can't comment on that. It's a great little EDC knife. I carry a Ritter Grip IWB, but the scallion is my all-around pocket knife.

I've been thinking about picking up a Scallion also. I like small knives in bright colors.

I carry the ritter grip EDC as well, just was lloking for something smaller and thought the price was right

I love that knife, it was my first "real" folder. It's my beater knife now, but it was really great as my main EDC.

Every thing stieg said is true. The clip is really stiff on mine, but my friend's is really loose. Also my lock, engages just enough for it to be acceptable, by me. My friends goes all the way to the other side of the tang, and I hard to disengage.

You should really see the exact knife you are going to get, ask to see a NIB one. Keep looking through them, until you find one that you like.

I really needed to find a different knife after this one, because I learned with this knife that it really sucks carrying a righty knife, lefty.

I love them both. I have carried my leek since they came out and have not had trouble with it. It's thin but, stronger than it looks and feels. As for honing I use a diamond stone and it takes an edge and holds it reasonably well. :D

The Scallion is a great small knife. The Speedsafe makes it fun also. The price is also pretty good for what you get.

i bought one of these last year for my dad, and he's carried it everyday since. he loves it. the AUS6 is quick to sharpen and holds an edge pretty well. the aluminum scales provide a decent grip, better than the SS Leek or Chive.

nice size, slips away in a pocket without being too bulky, and the speed-safe is still going strong 16+ months later. good knife.

abe m.

Got one for my Dad as well. He loves it but upon reciept called me to make sure it was legal;-)> After his comments I bought one for myself (zytel handles) and carried it as an EDC. I liked it very much, found it comfortable and sharp and fun. Gave it to my uncle as a birthday gift.

Great kife, lots of handle options for a super price.

I'd trust the framelock of the Chive over the linerlock of the Scallion, although I suppose there's not a whole lot you could do with such a little knife that'd overstress a linerlock. I guess the difference depends on what kind of handles you want (plain vs colored), since they're basically the same size with similar blades.

BTW, anyone seen the new smoked aluminum Leeks/Chives? Are these linerlocks? They look pretty cool in any case.

EDIT: I just found them on newgraham. They're linerlocks. The "smoke" seems a lot like "splash" and "jazz" aluminum handles (which Protech is very fond of). Since it's all somewhat random, they're all "unique".

if you're used to grippy handles, you'll find yourself dropping the scallion, especially if you have sweaty palms
it's not much for a beater because it's just so darn small
but it's great for utility use when you need a small knife that doesn't scare people that much :)

The aluminum handled ones can get slippery if your hands sweat alot. My friend has this one:

It has a plastic/rubber-like handle that gives a better grip. I have an aluminum handled one and think it feels a little more "solid", but both are good choices. The fit and finish was great and the Blade was very sharp. This little knife suprised me and has become one of my favorites.

Could you give me your impressions of the Black Out? I am considering one, or maybe the Whirlwind (similar, but without that black crap all over the blade).
