I just bought a Kershaw knife at a pawn shop. I have looked at several web sites but have not found an exact match to this knife. Can someone please tell me what model it is and tell me about the steel used for the blade. Also, what do these sell for new?

Kershaw Ken Onion
Closed 4 1/2"
Tanto blade 1/2 serrated
Black linen micarta grip
Steel clip
1510ST CMP 440V

Thanks,

David E

I didn't realize that there were any Ken Onion Kershaw Tanto blades...I'd be curious to see one...

I also don't know of any with linen micarta handles and the only Ken Onion Kershaws that I know of with CPM440V are the Boa, Random Task/Mini Task and the Ricochet.

I just noticed you wrote "1510ST." It's not this one is it? This is the Kershaw 1510ST/Random Task. If it is this one, then the handles are polished G10 (not linen micarta) and the blade could be referred to as a reverse tanto (I think)--but is more of a modified sheepsfoot type deal (tomato/tomahto).

Thanks for your help. I am sorry I had the terminology wrong. It looked like black micarta and the blade looked more like a tanto than anything else I knew of.

One thing different on my knife, the knife pictured had three screws along the back of the knife. Mine only has two.

Can you tell me anything about the CMP 440V steel?

Thanks again,

David E

No prob...happens to me all the time.

I'm really not a good person to ask about steels, but CPM 440V has been talked about quite a bit here on the forums. Check out these links for much more information than I can provide.

I do know that it is a higher end steel and that if you let it get dull it is a freaking pain to get sharp again (I found that out the hard way). But it does keep an edge very well after you do manage to get it sharp. I have it both on my Ken Onion Kershaw Boa and Ricochet (drop point version of the Random Task) and I like it.
