Hey guys. I'm still sort of a knife novice, and I don't own a sharpening system yet. What do you guys use to sharpen your Kershaws? I am really considering the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but I understand that the angle/profile of your edge should match the preset angles on the Sharpmaker. Will I have to reprofile my knives to work with the Sharpmaker? Are there any better choices?

Get the Sharpmaker. It comes with a video. It works very well. You could spend hundreds more and get a complicated system that results in blades not any sharper. Simple is best.

Not to hijack Thomas from answering, but my MiniZDP came in at about 21 degrees. My Scallion is a little thinner, at about 16 degrees.

Sharpening the Mini, which I've only had to touch up, was done at 20 degrees. I worked a bit on the Scallion, starting at 20 and back beveling at 15. Damn thing's sharp as a scalpel...

Both were done on the Sharpmaker....

The sharpmaker is good for touch-ups and blades with 20 or 15 degree edges. If you want to reprofile your edge though, the sharpmaker takes forever. For reprofiling you will want something like an edge pro. That said, the 20 degree angles work good on my factory edge Kershaws, but I have had to reprofile in order to use the 15 degree angles.

i think i saw some where that kershaw offers their own electric sharpener. anyone else hear about that?
