I just got a NIB Kershaw Knockout from a reputable dealer and the thing rattles like a son of a ... Any Knouckout owners out there? Anyone else have excessive rattle when their knockout is open and deployed? The rattle seems to go away when I fold it closed, so this makes me think it might be the spring??? A little rattle never really bothers me, but this thing sounds like a maraca.

Definitely the torsion bar. It is common on all SpeedSafe models. Add enough of any viscous grease to hold it in place and the rattle will disappear.

Every knife with speedsafe will rattle in the open position unless it's heavily greased around the torsion bar. It's nothing to worry about.

So if I understand correctly. The reason my Kershaw Piston and my Kershaw Leek that are both speedsafe that also don't have a single bit of rattle, is due to them having more grease? Again I wouldn't be at all bothered with a bit of rattle, but this thing is abundant. So where do I have to aply grease to this thing to get it to pipe down?

open the blade and use a torx bit to remove the handle on the non-clip side, there will be a channel milled into it for the torsion bar. apply enough grease to keep the bar from sliding around when there is no tension on it and the rattle will stop.

I just got a new one rattles when open. Not a big deal to me considering what it costs. Plus it really only rattles when I shake it.

I'd be afraid that when the knifes warms up in my pocket the grease might run?

Mine does not rattle when open. If I shake it real hard, right up next to my ear, I can hear a faint click. But in normal usage I hear nothing.

I use some petroleum jelly on mine when I open them and clean them. Never had it run out when warmed up in my pocket.

White lithium grease works well too. I think it maintains the same viscosity between 0-300 F. If you're in a colder area, there may be better options. If you're in a hotter one... well... the lockbar rattle is probably not your biggest concern.
