Hi.

I noticed that the design of this knife is missing the thin area in the back frame that all framelock knife have. Has there been any testing or evidence that this makes for a stronger lockup?

Thanks

Are you talking about the empty space in the backspacer where the flipper resides?

Not sure exactly what you are referring to, and I have no empirical data to support this, but the lockup on the Knockout seem to me to be neither stronger or weaker than a standard framelock design. Its really sort of an amalgam between a frame and liner lock. I would characterize it more as "innovative" than more strong or less strong.

I think he means the relief cut. The knockout is a sub-frame lock. The lock bar is not cut out from the handle scale. It is a steel bar that is attached to the aluminum scale with screws. Look I inside the handle with a flashlight and you will see what I mean.

Yes, it is the thinnest part of the scale on a frame lock knife. If you look at a frame lock knife with the blade open, the side with the lock that you push away from the blade to close it, has a area that is very thin. I don't see that thin area on the Knockout?

Is it the only knife with that type of lockup? And is it stronger than your standard frame lock is what I'm trying to figure out.

Thanks Again

If I understand correctly, the relief cut is unnecessary, and the design is neither stronger or weaker than comparable liner and frame locks.

It's to bad there is no local store here anymore that carry's higher end knifes that you can look at before buying them.

I'd like to see the knock out and find out if any other knifes were ever made with that design. If not they will probably be a good collectors item.

The ZT0777 and the ZT0454 also use the Sub-frame lock.

There is also another company who uses a type of sub-frame lock but they have a habit of taking other people's designs and shall remain nameless...
