I recently picked up a pair of the new Lee Williams-designed black Ener-G flippers for my wife and myself, and I'm happy to report that they are everything that I was hoping for when I bought them. The original Ener-G was already arguably my favorite production knife design ever, and the black ones have a couple of minor but noticeable improvements over the original.

First and foremost, the pocket shredding Trac-Tec inserts are gone, and the handle scales are just solid black G-10 with a checkered texture now. The knife feels just as good and in the hand without the inserts, but it goes in and out of the pocket much more easily now. Second, the black coating on the blade looks a little bit classier and more even than the type of satin finish that was on the original.

The Kick Stop flipper mechanism works just as well as ever, as you can see in the video here. It is certainly still my favorite opening mechanism ever designed on a knife. For more details on exactly how the Kick Stop works, check out my review of the original Ener-G here.

With an MSRP of $84.95, and a street price of a little over $50, the black Ener-G is one of the best values around in production knives.

Collect the set of 4! They're limited runs, too!

The ENER-G II has been one of, it not my favorite. I love the flipper and can fire it faster than any AO I own. They're incredible slicers!

Here's some Frankener=G's!

I like the idea of the EnerG deployment. Didn't like the "other" scales, so now these black G10 scales look great. No excuses! Got to get one now.:D

+1.

I feel the same way...liked the design, didn't care so much for the scales. Now I have to buy more.

For all those who did NOT like the original ENER-G scales,(No Brad I'm not talking about you;) we all know you liked 'em just fine) remember that once Kershaw uses up what they have left of the grey G-10 scales with trac-tec inserts, they will be switching over to the textured black G-10 on all future production ENER-G's.
