Hi,
I have a Kershaw Leek 1660CKT all black. The blade reads "DEC '08"
I know the blade material has changed a few times. Is there a Kershaw chart available to determine the type of steel.
Thanks!

Most kershaws have the type of steel printed near the tang, whether it's 440a, 13c26 or 14c28

I have a similar issue. Just bought a Leek, today, and there is nothing that I can see stamped anywhere, date or steel type. If I have to disassemble it to find this info, I have no torx on me now, but will when I get home. The package says Sandvik 14c28n, but I am not 100% convinced of that. Any reason to doubt the package, or at this date, is it what it says it is? Thanks in advance.

If you bought it new in its original package, there's absolutely no reason to think it's anything other than the steel listed. Was this from Wal Mart?

It was from Walmart. If there's no reason to doubt, good, I suppose I'm just interested in why others here state there are etched dates when mine shows nothing on the knife.

Thanks Morrow, always the voice of reason,

I just bought a Kershaw leek1660 ckt from wal mart about 30 minutes ago and was impressed with this knife.i am a Case XX collector but wanted to try out one of these. and they were 15 $ cheaper at wal mart than most of the other online places.

Same knife no matter where it was bought. Kershaw stopped putting the dates on the Leeks and they don't etch the blade steel type either.

im totally impressed with this knife! im an old school collector and have been wanting to branch out if you will and started with this one.thanks to the reviews etc here. I cant stop messing with it,lol even my wife likes it. im looking at other Kershaws now.

You both made good choices with those Leeks! I've owned several over the past few years and can say that they are great knives

yea this leek is awesome.ive heard a few things about the springs breaking etc,is this all something that can be replaced without a hassle? or maybe buying replacement springs from Kershaw?

Torsion bars are meant to withstand around 10,000 openings, if I remember correctly. Sometimes they break sooner than later. It's no hassle at all to replace them. In fact, with a couple of quality torx bits you can swap 'em out in under 5 minutes.

And you don't have to buy anything! Kershaw has an awesome warranty. You can literally request torsion bars, pocket clips and screws for free off their website. I actually just got a new torsion bar and pocket clip for my Knockout (another great Kershaw knife) and it only took about a week to get here.

I believe somewhere around March 2009 they stopped dating knives. I honestly miss it but completely understand the reasoning for it.
