Kershaw Leek Blackwash, or Kershaw Leek Composite Blackwash?

Been looking for a leek and I like the blackwash versions.

Which one is better? The composite with D2 and Sandvik in the blade, or the regular full Sandvik (I think that's the steel) blade?

They are both excellent steels, IMO D2 will hold a little edge longer but tends to feel grainy/toothy while cutting. Sandvik's 14C28N will will take a finer, smoother feeling edge. I would vote composite blade just cause they look awesome tho lol!

Yeah the composite looks really cool and I know D2 is a good steel for holding an edge, but my main concern is whether or not the blade is weaker from the mixed steels? It looks like they're just fused together somehow and I don't know how that would hold up.

The composite blades are fine, they will hold up as well as single-steel blades.

Okay, thanks. I think I'll be able to get a composite pretty cheap from what I've seen if I look around a bit.

I really like the composite blade version. The D2 is some pretty great stuff - very tough and great edge retention. It is a pain to sharpen on natural stones, but I've had no issues sharpening it on diamond stones or the Sharpmaker. One other thing of note is that the composite blade has a flat grind, and the Sandvik is a hollow grind. There might be flat-ground Sandvik ones as well (like some of the flat ground Blurs).

Thanks guys. If all goes well I'll be getting one of the composites for under 50 $.

@mr_anderson,

That name may not mean what I think it means, but if it does, I just pictured a guy in a muscle shirt talking into a microphone that just descended from the ceiling.

Nice! Where did you find a deal like that?

Wanting to swoop down upon my prey are you? :D

I found a few of them on ebay. I hope to win one today.
