Kershaw Leek "Click" issue

Hello all,

My leek makes a weird click sound when folding back in. I'm not sure what it is and was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue before. I was originally going to just send it into kershaw for repair, but shipping would have cost 14 dollars apparently. I believe that I might need more oil where the spring bar is. Would motor oil be fine for this? I feel that it is the spring bar because I removed it and put the knife back together. The knife was smooth without any sound occurring. Also, how many washers should there be? I fear that I might have lost one :D Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Update: I kept bending the spring bar more and more and now the sound is almost non existent. Just in case I ordered some more from kershaw, but am confident that the issue is indeed the spring bar.

On the other hand.. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of oil to use for the spring bar and/or pivot. I would like to use the same for both, but if there is a better solution please let me know. Thanks again

You don't use oil for the torsion bar, rather high temp grease. Preferably something that won't liquify at under 150* F otherwise you would have a nice oil slick in your pocket. There is usually 2 washers, 1 per side of the knife. My experience with a Kershaw Leek spans almost 6 years and I've always used s very tiny amount of Rem Oil. It really doesn't need a lot.

Thanks Rev,

Luckily I didn't misplace a washer. I'm glad you told me about the oil before I went and embarrassed myself in public! Do you have any suggestions on what type of grease to use for the torsion bar area?

Thanks again,

White Lithium #1 for that.

I just use a few globs of petroleum jelly. Sometimes torsion bars will rattle, and the globs keep it from rattling, and also cuts down friction which can extend the life ofbtge torsion bar.

No petroleum jelly, it has a low liquifying temp. Needs to be higher temperature than that.

I have gone to Super Lube grease in the small squeeze tube.
Takes very little in the torsion bar area and works well for a long time.

send an email to Militec 1. They will send you samples of their oil and grease. Its good stuff.

OK, I have found that using moly lube for Old American car engine camshafts works great as lube for the torsion bar, but if the bar breaks or is causing issues with the blade folding open and shut, you can contact Kershaw via email and they might take a few business days to respond but they are really good about taking care of their customers and sending replacement parts. I had a Chinese made 1980 that had a broken torsion bar and they replaced it. They are seriously good like that.

NOTE: I have about 16 Kershaws and have relubed all the 'SpeedSafe' models with Moly Lube and never had any issues. you can purchase it at Autozone for about $8. Worth the money, seriously. Seriously high temp and works like a champ with any assisted blade torsion bar setup.

I use "Magnalube-G" teflon grease and it works great. I even use it on the pivots
