So I was trying to disassemble my composite D2 Leek and I noticed that the pivot just spins as I turn the screw. Is this normal or is my Leek busted somehow?

no its not broken its just loctite

also rember to take the knife apart when its OPEN ONLY or you will break the torsion bar

Open up the knife, set a towel on a counter, place leek spine on towel, hold pressure to knife (pressure directed to the spine, but while holding the handle) while trying to unscrew the pivot screw.

Be sure to check the frame/liner-lock integrity before you do this.

I've never taken one apart before, I was surprised that there was no "D" style pivot. Time for the hairdryer trick followed by the tip knivesandguns posted. Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Coincidentally the tension bar feels wrong. The flipper gets stuck half way. I tried loosening the screws slightly on the handle (thought they may have been too tight). When I tried adjusting the pivot I noticed it just spins. The knife locks up and the blade is centered, just no flippage. :(

I had the same problem before, here was my solution:

1. Cut a piece of a rubber band about the size of the pivot.
2. Place rubber band piece on pivot, then screw the clip tightly over the rubber band.

The grip from the rubber band plus the pressure from the clip should keep the pivot from spinning.

That is awesome, I think will do the trick. Thanks kya

As always if none of the above work (one of them should) you can always send it in to Kershaw for a quick tune-up. :) It is the loctite--you could boil the knife for 30 seconds as well--that'd probably break (melt) the seal.

I always found with my Kershaws that if I just squeexed the two sides of the handle together that made enough tension for the pivot not to spin. I think it's kind of funny that most of thier knives have a round pivot then the JYDs have a massive hex shaped pivot end.

if you need a new bar go to kershaws web site or call them they will send you a new for free of charge

The rubber band trick worked really well. Looks like the grease was pretty much filthy. I cleaned it up, polished the washers a little, put it all back together and now it's working like a champ. I just finished reassembling my 110V Shallot too the same way.
