I just bought this Leek at a show, after I got it home I started thinking it looks a little sus. At first glance, feel, and the action all seems like a Leek, but the eteching on the blade seems fuzzy and feels rough, whereas my other Kershaws I own are smooth and the blade etch cannot be felt. The box seemed different also, doesn't have a model number or anything on the box. So did I get hoodwinked or has Kershaw changed some things?

I don't go to 'shows'.

I only do business with qualified dealers or the makers themselves.

Ali Express, Amazon, Etsy whatever no thanks.

Greg Medford was told to leave a show because of a t-shirt he was handing out. Seeing your story makes me wish I had one of those t-shirts.
😉

If it’s too good to be true. It probably is. 🫣
Sorry you got taken. 😞
John 😁

Education isn’t free. Don’t dwell on it, don’t beat yourself up over it, just consider your tuition paid.

Live and learn.

I learned my lesson buying a Swiss Army knife from the back of Boy’s Life magazine . Over 40 years ago, It still stings. But it was a life lesson learned. Probably saved me from being taken again.

What did the shirt say?

Yeah, this was at the The Greater Shenandoah Valley Knife Show. It was my first time there, seemed like some nice people and really impressive collections on display. After my experience with this purchase however, I will say that it will probably be my last visit. It was nice, but too far of a drive for me to repeat, especially if I cannot trust the stuff there to be legit.

Let the organizers know - they should have records of who was setting up tables there. Maybe you can claw back some $$$ or at least get that seller banned and blacklisted for other shows.

I see a lot of fakes or overpriced junk knives at gun shows.
Yup, me too, but not on my table. Yes, I sell knives at gun shows, mostly as a hobby.

And should I ever wind up with a fake -- it has happened twice -- then it either doesn't make the trip with me or I clearly mark it as a "reproduction" or something like that. Then, if possible, I place it side-by-side with a real one. [At a much lower price, obviously!]

You'll find the same crap at any show pretty much. You do need to report the seller. If everybody just looks the other way, its not going to change.

The 22 bucks doesn't even cover the cost of the pocket clip but don't feel bad, I got burned at my first Gun/Knife show at the very beginning of my collecting and that's how I discovered this board while doing some research after the fact and now I just stay away from showspiriod. I tend to hold on to grudges sad to say.

Happened to me with a watch yrs ago ~ Felt like such a victim at the time I was pretty mad about it of Course ~ But ! over time like all things it fades and you turn it into a learning experience and another tale to be told later on 🤘

It's a shame (putting it mildly) , that there are scammers folks have to deal with. I picked up a spyderco, that I discovered to be fake (Walmart.com). Fortunately I was able to return it. If a deal is too good to be true, there are shenanigans involved.

I was at an outdoors show with EngrSorenson EngrSorenson and found a table with a mix of real and fakes. I was tempted to buy one of the real ones, because it was a good price, but I didn't want to support the guy who would sell fakes even when not all of them were. They're certainly out there!

Look up his video about it. Classic Greg!

Medford displayed himself as an ignorant dirtbag with that move.

Hope you didn't spend too much $ on it.

FWIW, in my experience for both Kershaws & Spydercos, if the box doesn't have the model # & bar code on it somewhere (locations vary based on the brand, size of box and when it was made) it's definitely a fake.

For some reason, the scammers can do a pretty good job of copying the knives but don't do a good job on the boxes.

That's why I'll seldom buy a Kershaw or Spyderco w/o a box and will never buy one that comes w/box unless it is properly labeled.
