I recently bought a Kershaw Leek S30V w/ G10 handle, but I fell in love with the Kershaw ZDP miniCyclone :o.
Which blade do you think is the most durable, the Leek S30V, or the mini Cyclone ZDP.

I've heard the ZDP is brittle, but the blade is thicker than the Leek.
And the Leek is thin, but I don't know how strong it is.

If anyone had a ZDP Cyclone, can you take a picture of the Blade, and the handle? I want to see the liner lock on it, and how thick the blade is, if possible, take the picture next to a leek.

Thanks!!

zdp mini cyclone is a frame lock-

ill tell you this- get one while you can, they are only making 800 i think so they wont be around long-

its a great knife

framelock is made with the handle -its used as the lock-

a liner lock has a piece behind the handle thats used-

tried to add pictures but they arent showing-

take a look at the kershaw photo thread-
you can see a framelock with the first few pics of a zt and mini cyclone zdp-on the second page are linerlocks

A framelock can be crappy and a linerlock can be great, and vice versa -- all depends on the manufacturer. However, linerlocks seem to be easier to manufacture and are more common on low-end knives.

A LONG thread (with many pix) on the Mini-Cy ZDP. The consensus seems to be that it's a great knife but the blade thickness makes it at best an average slicer unless you re-profile the edge.

Spyderco's guide to knife anatomy
displays three different kinds of locks. VERY roughly speaking, the compression lock is like a framelock (top of page); the liner lock is illustrated at the bottom of the page.

I would choose the ZDP-189 Mini Cyclone. I love the looks, I like ZDP-189. It is just aesthetically MORE appealing to me.

I just chose between the TiZDP Mini-Cyclone, and the TiZDP Leek. Both are frame locks, both about the same size. The Leek won for a three reasons. First, it seemed to have a much slimmer profile, and I thought it would ride in the pocket better. Second, it had a modified Warncliff style blade. I've never owned one, so I wanted to give it a try. Third, It was $115 new compared to the mini-cyclone at $140 new. It just arrived, and My impression is this. It is so thin, and so light, that it feels flimsy. It's not flimsy, but it feels like it should be when I hold and my small sebenza together. I still may get the mini-Cyclone just to have one, it's a toss up right now whether I want to get it next or a CF/ZDP Caly-3 at about the same price. The jury is still out on witch will become my next permanent EDC.

Which would be the best knife for stabing into things?
I've heard that the ZDP is brittle, but the Cyclone's tip is thick.
So If I get the knife I wouldn't have that much confidence to use it, :(.
Like how I am with my Leek.

vcw, when you mention "stabing into things", what kind of "things" are you talking about?

Wood, bottles, etc... But not meaning I would really do that, it's just that people I lend my knives don't know, so I just want a knife wth a stong knife, just incase :).

They think stabbing knives into things are normal, and nothing wrong with it.

Stop lending your knives to folks OR get a cheap junky knife to lend out ;) ;) ;) .

I personally prefer the Mini-Cyclone. I like everything about that knife.
