Is it possible to remove the device that makes the blade snap open without causing any problems?

Yes i believe so, just take out the lever and put it back together, but why on earth would you want too?

If I understand correctly that same device keeps the blade closed also. I'm with James, why would you want to? If it is because you want to give it to someone that would not like or be able to handle the assisted opening feature, then it is the wrong knife.
