Kershaw Leek

Hi there

First of all I am new in this knife community and I have a question to you

I am thinking of buying a Kershaw leek and I am asking your opinions may I buy a serrated or fine edge or I should buy another knife. I will carry it everyday and I wanted a assisted-opening knife and also it is appreciated if you can post some url.

Thanks for help and I hope as this is my first post I did not do something wrong
 
Welcome to the forum and you didn't do anything wrong except get interested in an addictive hobby. Leek is a highly regarded knife. Serrations are a matter of strong opinion. I prefer plain, which is a bit less complicated to sharpen. Have fun.
 
If you're gonna get a leek.I strongly suggest you go for the S30V/G10 version.You won't be dissapointed:thumbup:
 
The Leek is a fine knife but bear in mind the blade is very thin near the point , it is more suited for light duty and not a general use work knife.
 
1+++ for the Leek. A very good value. I have the S30V/G10 polished (a nice pocket knife!, Handle can be slippery, but doesn't hang on pants, and looks beautiful, IMHO), and the Damascus version, which take a very nice edge, and looks nice too.
I recommend the plain edge.
Very functional EDC, esp for light duty. I wouldn't recommend prying anything with the tip, because it is very pointed and fine.
 
The Leek is a great edc for the office environment. That point is great for opening letters and potato chip bags. Any Leek is a good Leek, just get what your wallet can afford and go from there, you won't be disappointed. The lock on these things are rock solid and the S30V, after a little reprofiling will get to a razors edge.
 
I dont have a leek yet, and i am trying to get a G10 s30v model so i cant comment there, but you could also consider getting a mini-cyclone, they are amazing knives. I would get the plainedge although i dont have much of a problem with serrated edges.

+1. S30V version is well made, durable and high qlty materials. I for one love Kershaw's S30V steel. Will give you great edge retention in a stainless stell blade.

Tip is thin, but I don't heavy pry with it. I do poke (aluminum cans, heavy cardboard and boxes) with no problems whatsoever, actually in stabs these materials very well!!
 
Another Leek fan here. Great knife; get the plain edge.

I hated my leek but I am in the minority here. I just didn't find it a good fit for what I need in a knife. If you do get one I would suggest a PE basically because personally I prefer a PE on all of my EDC knives. (not to say SE doesn't have it uses)

Its an awesome cutter. What rebel is saying i that yo should not use it to PRY, but other than that YES GET A LEEK. They are incredible knives.
 
Kershaw has amazing S30V steel. Get a plain edge. I was out hiking the other day and I was using my big Gerber knife with serrations, and the serrations didn't help at all. Usually serrations are too big to be able to saw anything succesfully without getting caught up, or, with combo edges, there aren't enough serrations to saw anything. plus, the plain edge is most useful towards the back of the knife and when you get serrations it takes that usefuleness away
 
The basic Leek,I think, has a habit of losing it`s edge (mine does)
I was thinking about buying the Leek with the Titanium handle with the the ZDP189 blade (Limited Edition) but I was too late.
I have used mine,off and on as a EDC,the last 8 years(along with many others)
The basic one ,good knife for the price but I rather prefer a "stronger" steel for the blade.
I am going get one with S30V blade and G10 handles sometime in the future.

Current Leeks use 13C26. They used 440A (I think) up until mid last year. I think Kershaw uses their "reverse" serrations these days. They seem even more of a hassle to sharpen than more traditional pattern.

It's a great all around knife. Yes, don't pry with it. Duh. Get a friggin' prybar already.

are you kidding me ?? the serrations on my Leek cut cucumbers and tomatoes better than my Ginsu !! :D
