I think an underated knife is the Kershaw linerlock with aluminum handles and a kraton insert. I've got the large size which is about 4.5" closed. After about 10 years of periodic hard use, the lock-up is tight and the knife shows little signs of wear. It's not a "sexy" knife but is sure a workhorse. Has anyone else had good luck with this knife?

if you are referring to the lineraction model 2420 ( the lagest of three sizes) then I have carried one for years....I have several new ones, but this ones keeps going. The rubber has worn down and the handle now shines...they are great knives....is it model 2420 you have?

Yes, I've got the 2420ST.

The only problem I've had was losing a screw out of the pocket clip; Kershaw sent me a new clip with three screws.

The now-discontinued medium-sized (3" blade) version was my first quality one-hand-opening knife, bought back in '97. I also own the large version and the small version. IMO this knife has always been a "sleeper" in the knife world; it's very underestimated and does whatever a knife is meant to do, and very well.

Other than occasionally having to tighten the pivot screw, this model is very solid in lockup. The liners on all of mine travel all the way across the blade tang, but there is no vertical play at all.

I have adjusted the liner lock a few times to make the knife not a gravity knife in NY. It has also resulted in more pressure needed to open the knife, but this has added the effect of a "safety" since it now takes a good amount of force to open, but when pushed forward with the thumb stud it opens quickly with a resounding click.....faster and safer than an auto or assisted opener. Great knife by far, and yes a sleeper in the sales department....it can also be taken down cleaned and put back together in less than ten minutes.....
