Some review on this knife, please? :) I'd like to know a few specifics: Does the sheath hold up well? How's the steel's edge retention and what is the feel of the POM handle, is it hard or rubbery to the touch?

Thanks for all info in advance!!

I purchased these in Germany during the mid 80's, sold or made under the Othello name. The handles are some sort of composite similar to micarta; they can feel slick, and the handle is very slender. The sheaths were good quality, the steel acted like 440c at about 55 or 56 rc, the edges are a bit obtuse.

That's all I have and don't know if any of it is helpful:confused:

LeBaron's has 'em in Mississauga. German steel is always good.

Where on Dundas is LeBarons in relation to Swiss Chalet and Future Shop. We go to Swiss Chalet once a week and I wonder if I can nip in there while the food is being prepared?

nice to see some other knife knuts from around Toronto, do u guys mind if i ask u to give me a couple of good knife stores around here, i hate ordering online.

I own one I like it....it has a multi position sheath and the steel holds up ok as Aus8 or 440 would be expected, not sure which one but its either or I think. Good knife for a non edc guy.

I've got one, it was a gift (that I did ask for) haven't used it much (if at all). The blade is thin which doesn't particularly bother me but the tip is quite fine as well. I think just about every time I've picked it up I've thought about taking off the 1st 1/4" or so of the blade as well as removing the guard at the top (along the spine). Then I think it would mess up the finish & I remember I'm lazy & put it back in the chest with the other knives I don't use...

Sorry, rambled there for a bit.

I have noticed every time it comes out of the plastic (not Kydex) sheath the sharp edges of the guard scrape at the soft plastic of the sheath & leave very small plastic shaving on the blade. The handle is hard & only very slightly dulled, more "matte" than dull if that makes sense. Can't comment on edge retention but overall I don't think it would stand up to prolonged or hard use.

Camillus CQB2 is about the same size & if it's anything like it's big brother (I have the CQB1) I think it'd make a better choice provided you could find one used somewhere. Same goes for the Gryphon M10 thought it is a little smaller (mine's an older one so it's ATS-34 not AUS8 but was sold with the sucky nylon sheath)...

p.s. I'm in Hamilton so "Howdy Neighbour!"

I like the proportions and feel of the MBK, but its thick at the edge, so its a great sticky-poker, but a real, useable edge is difficult, at best.

Thanks for all the replies, folks.

Le Baron is a cool shop. Too bad they close on Sundays. I really like the look and specs of this knife and the good price of it. It's one of those knives that I don't really need it but I just want it. :p

PS Nice to know some of ya are from the GTA, too!

Those Military Boot Knives are $24.00 at Outdoor America in OKC. How expensive are they where you are knuck?
