I am curious if any of you have signifigant use time in on BOTH the 1635 /1635st and the 1636 titanium min-cyclone's. I guess my main question would be -just how much difference between the liner lock and frame lock versions of this knife ?
Appreciate any input - even if all you've done is handeled both side by side.

Well, the ZDP Cyclone is the same size as the mini-Cyclone. Blade steel on the ZDP Cyclone is obviously much better than on either of the regular Cyclones. As to the ZDP Cyclones' frame-lock compared to the regular Cyclones' liner-lock, well, frame-locks are typically stronger & more durable.

The blade steel & blade locking mechanism are the 2 biggest differences. As to are they worth it? It depends. If you're just going to use you knife for very light duty, then you're probably better off saving your money & buying a regular mini-Cyclone. If you're thinking of it being an EDC/SD & using it kind of hard, then you're probably better off spending the extra $$ for the ZDP model. It'll hold its edge longer & the frame-locks more durable & more resistant to failure.

Hope that helps.

My specific question is based on the following:1.) My EDC for 4 or 5 years continiously was a Boa 1580 - great knife/extrodanary service from Kershaw. And somehow I didn't manage to lose the thing.I did however have it drop out of my jeans watch pocket a bunch of times - this method of carry works for me primarily because it gives me a quick and easy place to return the tool to after every use - other wise (sooner or later) I'll leave it somewhere and forget where -or somebody finds it before I do and it's gone.
2.) After a really positive experience with kershaw service I bought a mini-cyclone -this appeals to me over the Boa because the handle is just slightly shorter than the Boa's - I found opening it with the thumb-stud awkward ( remember - I've opened speed safe knives this way thousands of times) - assume this is something to do with my hand geometry / handle/blade geometry.Don't care for the flipper and never use it.
What I'm wondering is if the frame lock version of the mini-cyclone feels /works signifigantly different in terms of the thumb open on the speed safe function?

I have both Mini Cyclone versions in front of me and they operate exactly the same. The Frame lock may be just a bit easier to close but the opening operation is exactly the same. The Ti version is a bit lighter weight as expected.
