Greetings,

I am considering purchasing a Kershaw Mini Task (1500). If I am not mistaken, I believe that these knives have underwent a few design improvements since their introduction and, if so, could anyone tell me ways for me to ensure that I get the latest version, or ways to tell the newest model from the earlier versions? As always, your help and time is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

JK

You may want to contact Kershaw. I don't think that the mini task did undergo any changes. Its bigger brother, the random task, did undergo changes. I think the mini was OK from the beginning.

Actually beam, I think it was the mini-task that has changed. The thumbstud design was changed because of user complaints about sore thumbs. I think this was mostly attributable to incorrect opening techniques. Mine has a beveled and textured top. I believe that is the new design. I also understand Kershaw is making them in different blade steels besides ATS34 now. Someone posted a little while ago about having a mini-task marked 440C. I wish they would make it in 420V.

Anyway, it's a nice little knife. It feels great in the hand and is Fun and Useful. Not too small. Not too big.

Jedi, consider paying a little more and getting a custom made knife directly from Ken Onion. Then you can have exactly what you want.

That was I who posted about the latest model of mini-Task being in 440-C steel. I talked to customer service and they said the latest, and the last model indeed does have 440C steel.
Also Ken onion asnwered my questions about the steel change, and it was his idea. He felt the 440-C has better properties, and was comparable to ATS-34 in edge holding. Also more corrosion, and more purity in the steel
I have only had mine for 2 weeks, and so far no problems in action, etc.
One last important thing that Ken Onion said is the mini-Task, Random Task, and 1 or 2 other models will be discontinued to make room for some new up and coming models, so better buy while you can.
Hope this helps.

Larry
