Hi folks,

I got the 0200 and the 0300 (bought them but they aren't in my hands yet) but already thinking of the Mudd. Just wondering if it's waterproof? The locking mechanism is sealed as well as the pivot and the handles are alloy so wondering if I can take this thing into the rapids...or pool...or shower. :D

Well I just got my 0200 and 0500 last week to keep my 0302 company. Upon visual inspection of the MUDD everything looks totally sealed so I don't see why it couldn't take some water. I don't know if you have had an opportunity to handle one before you bought it but in my opinion it is one of the most impressive knives I own. It is a substantial knife and much beefier than it appears in pictures. Very well balanced and sits very low in the pocket. Extremely grippy surface will guarantee you won't lose this knife wet or dry. I'm sure you will be very impressed.

I think the key here is probably water-resistant as opposed to waterproof. I'd still suggest disassembly, drying, and re-lubing if you end up submerging the knife or getting it really wet. I don't own one yet, though. It may very well be fine without those maintenance steps.

More actual owners will hopefully chime in with their experiences.

I have one and love it, and you nailed the water resistance vs. waterproof. Taken (stolen? plagiarized?) from the KAI website on the ZT 0500:
"This folder dubbed the mudd knife features Neoprene®seals around the pivot and lock to keep the elements at bay. Resistant to sand, dirt and water."

As far as the disassembly goes, by the fact that no common tool that I can
think of would open it up, it is the only knife I own so far that would go to the manufacturer should a problem ever occur. I believe it was fastened without regular Torx bits for that reason, and also to ensure as good a seal as possible. I know some members have already dissasembled theirs to clean and/or modify it, but I don't think I will.

Here's an image of mine to show what I mean about the fasteners for the pivot:

Hope this helps.

I hadn't given much thought to the MUDD, not sure I could actually open a knife without SpeedSafe anymore! What type of lock is on this?

They are easier to open up than they appear!!;) Took mine down when I first got it, cleaned out everything, relubed it with miltec, put it back together with nary a hitch. The ZT0500 is one of my favorite's!!:D:thumbup:
