I was at D1ck's Sporting goods this evening. I wandered over to the knife display and saw a knife in a case with a stand up lable that said Chive $39.99.

It didn't look like a Chive it looked like the knife I have been thinking about getting, the Needs Work.

I got a guy to open the case and I said I think this is mislabeled. I told him I thought it was a Needs Work. I think the name confused him a bit and he went over to the wall display. He came back and said that it was the last Chive they had. I reiterated that it wasn't a Chive and that I was pretty sure it was a Needs Work.

If it is still there on my lunch tommorrow I might see if I can snag it.

I checked online prices and I guess $39.99 plus tax is not such a deal for that knife. I guess I was thrown by the $54.95 MSRP.

Do not try to teach a pig to sing, the only result will be to annoy the pig.

You have good ethics, but it seems the stupidity of others is a burden to YOU and not to them, it should be the opposite.

You actually found a live, coherent human being working there? All the times there I never saw an employee...except for the three that were trying to figure how to get the cash drawer out of the register. Come to think of it, they didn't have name tags or anything...wonder if they were in fact employees!

Same thing happened here at a large retailer. New folks were mislabeling knives, tools, etc. I mentioned it to managers on three different occasions. After the third time, I started buying some of the stuff. I used to work retail. Matching stuff up to the shelf labels & tags ain't that hard.

thx - cpr

At stores like that I try not to get the young kids to help me. I try to find the older manager types. Even then it is hit or miss.

I thought I would give them a chance to rectify their error before I took advantage of them. If I hadn't checked out the online prices I would be going back.

I am an honest person. My wife gets annoyed because I will go out of my way to make things right. We had two muffin pans that we were going to purchase. They were nested. We got out to the car and the wife noticed we were only charged for one. I went back in and paid for the other. The wife didn't want to bother. I told her it was no better than stealing. This is the same women that would go back in if she was overcharged a few cents.

Esav,
"They didn't need their name tags anymore.
They memorized them and threw them away"
That is awesome, thanks for starting my day off with a good laugh.
