Kershaw Needs Work vs Junkyard Dog II Composite

I'm probably going to buy one of these knives pretty soon, but I'm not really sure which one I want. I like the blade style of both despite the fact that they're very different, but the Junkyard Dog also apparnetly comes with the edge steel in D2. Seems kind of neat, I've heard about composite blades, but never really seen one. Any caveats with this? I guess I'd mostly be worried about it coming apart, as I always imagined them as some type of alloy, not too different pieces of steel stuck together.

I think I like the looks of the Needs Work more, and I like the flat blade style. I just haven't really heard much about it, it doesn't seem to be very popular.

So with the JYD I can try out a new steel, but I think I'd rather have the Needs Work blade, plus I can get it for cheaper.

There is a G-10 version of the needs work, I have one ordered.

3 3/4" blade vs 3" blade

I personally didn't care for the JYD2 when I handled it, the needs work feels good in hand, but I have held out for a G-10 version.

I've got no experience with the JYD 2 (can't get past that gadawful clip! :barf: ), but I do own a G-10 Needs Work. Great little utility knife for edc type chores. The wharnie blade is a real gem and has a fine tip and blisteringly sharp edge. Not meant for hard use by any means, but a great cutter. The handle is a tad on the small side, so if you have big hands, I would try and handle one first. Also, the clip is a bit on the small side, but I still like it better than the JYD's clip.

Overall, it's a nice little knife especially with the G-10 handles and stonewashed blade.

I have a junkyard composite and love it. Sturdy and tough knife and I like the clip. I don't ever have to worry about it falling out. Give the junkyard a try!

i have both, use both, and like both...the needs work is a funky looking, but very handy utility knife for utility situations...jyd2 is a larger and more traditional looking knife i carry for outdoor work and recreation...and i could care less about the jyd2's unique clip; clips don't mean nothing.

i use the needs work way more than most of my other folders these days...i would definitely get another (non-g10) if i lose or abuse it...

Depenf of your needs, the Needwork is very compact but the blade is very thin near the tip, both are easy to carry, JYD composite D2 is one of the best slicer ever.
