I recently purchased a Needs Work and overall I like this knife. There is one problem though,I thought it was suppose to be stainless.I carry it at work and just the moisture from when I sweat while I work has caused the blade to start rusting. Is there anyway to stop or prevent this? Thanks:confused:

I had a similar problem with my caly 3, a little rem/gun oil over the blade with a qtip should remove any light oxidation and then coat it frequently if you are going to be sweating alot. Salt/sweat is a real enemy to steel.

Remember, Stainless steel is just that, it will stain *LESS* readily than carbon steel, the only true stain-proof steel is Spyderco's H-1

the beadblasted/satin finish on the Needs Work makes it more apt to pick up minor, cosmetic surface oxidation

Mac is right. it stains less. my JYD2 is like that. it got that way after some food prep. dont worry about it, no big deal. now if you have a TON of rust on it, then you have issues with the knife.

btw, welcome to the forums jsj

like the others said, stainless steels, especially the kinds of stainless used in knife blades, are exactly what their name implies, they stain less. usually the higher grades of knife stainless are the ones which show spot rusting easier than the cheaper grades being they are the higher carbon, lower chromium stainless. the lower the chromium, the closer they are being carbon steel and hence the easier they rust. to take care of your problem all depends how often you use your knife. if you use it every day then i would wipe the blade with an oily rag at the end of the day before you go to bed. if you dont use it very often then you might get away with doing it once a week. just a very thin coat of good rust preventitive type of oil should do the trick. i keep an old piece of a t-shirt in a sandwich baggy and is very lightly oiled which i use to wipe my blades and firearms down occasionally. i have never had a rusting problem with either. i hope this helps,,,VWB.
