Just curious what peoples opinions on the Kershaw needs work are I plan on picking it up this coming weekend. So opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The Needs Work is a straight forward utility knife. I wasn't a fan of the original Needs Work. I don't like plastic handles....whether it be Polyimide..FRN...whatever. I did however love the blade shape as it suits my needs nicely during the day at work. The recently released Needs Work with the G-10 handle is much more to my liking. It feels much better in hand than original. The G-10 is grippy and comfortable. My only complaint with the G-10 Needs Work is the pocket clip. It is certainly functional but when combined with the textured G-10 it was just a bear to get out of the pocket. A little bending corrected the problem. Overall.....it's a solid knife and a good value. Both models can be had for under $40...I believe the G-10 model is a limited run but are still around.

Thanks for the reply personally I have had a few minor issues with the pocket clips on a couple of there folders. But as you said a little bending corrects the problem.

The original scales are all right. They're ugly, but I find the original fills the hands better though is a fatter in the pocket. The G10 one is nice but morrowj 98 said the pocket clip with the G10 is a little harsh on the pocket. I'm thinking of have STR make a lowride for it or just remove the clip all together and just add a lanyard of some type.

I got Needs work with regular polymide handles. Ok, knife looks ugly, but its one of the most comfortable folders I've had so far. The blade is awesome to work with Sheephoof / Wharncliffe design makes it excellent work knife.

The speedsafe torsion bar is weak point of the knife but if it brokes, just contact Kershaw. Kershaw has very good warranty services.

The G-10 version has a stonewashed blade as well. The clip does fit a little tighter on the G-10 vs the standard model.
But as a few have suggested it's an easy fix.

i said it before, i love using the funky looking Needs Work...original handle feels good...it's like a box cutter on extreme steroids...

it seems all pocket clips need to be taken off and bent to your liking, they all come bent down hard...better than being shipped loose i guess...

Personally I think the knife looks pretty tactical and I really don't mind the looks.

It's ugly and the cheap plastic handles don't feel the best.

On the other hand, the handle is comfortably shaped and the blade is well-suited for utility tasks.

The G10 model would be an improvement.

I have one... One of the first knives I bought and my first Kershaw too. It's a great utility knife; cardboard, vinyl etc. Came shaving sharp right out of the box. The knife is without a doubt ugly, at least to my eyes but it is a great performer. I did however had some corrosion problems with the steel but this may be due to the high humidity. Other than that, this knife has taught me that I do not like AO knives. It is my first and last. If Kershaw made more non-AO knives I'm sure they'd get more of my money but AO knives do have it's own fanbase that's for sure. I still use mine, it's a good knife for the price (I believe USD35 on eBay).

One more thing.. I love how the handle angles up on the Needs Work, helps me to really get down to whatever material I am cutting especially if it is placed on a flat surface.

I've thought about cutting a small choil in the blade. I think it would help with controlling the blade. Also, does anyone know if the G10 version is made with 13c or 14c?

13C26...but it is stonewashed as opposed to the bead blasted blade on the original.

I thought that the G10 ones were released after Kershaw started using 14c28n. As far as the plastic handled ones, it depends on the "born on date" on the side of the knife. I think anything newer than Jan 09 would have 14c28n...anything older would be 13c26. yes?

Yep...you're right. I'm was mistaken.
