Kershaw Offset vs. Zero Tolerance

I am currently trying to decide between the Offset or one of the ZT knives does anyone have an opinion. I heard a while back that Kershaw was possibly going to offer the Offset with G-10 scales but haven't heard anymore about it.

Yeah, I would definitely be interested in a G-10 Offset. Does anyone have an opinion on the performance of the steel in the Offset vs. the steel in the zt200 and zt300.

jamarlatt, we have just finished up 3-D machining and texturing the new G-10 scales (black) on the next generation Offset. Looks sweet, and will be available Jan./Feb. of 07. MSRP will not be changed, and we are looking to build 1000 to 1500 pieces of it in 07.

Thanks Thomas will definitely be looking forward to seeing it as well as getting my hands on one. Will the blade remain the same (I really like the blade) or will there be changes made to the blade as well.

No changes to the blade, except it will not have a black coating. It will have more of a natural grey look.

Kershaw does great anodized titanium work.

Man, an uncoated blade AND G10? For some reason I thought it was still coated....that makes the Offset considerably more desireable. I'll have tosee if I can make room in my collection for a massive knife.

I am indeed looking forward to the G10 version (the splash paint on the old is... icky) but a titanium version would just too beautiful.

Well we had an abundance of G-10 in house, which played a part in the decision. Ti would have been nice, but would have also made the MSRP jump as well.

Just wanted to chime in before this thread gets too old. Hey Thomas W, you folks at Kershaw keep up the good work. I wouldn't normally go all out for a single company, but Kershaw's is top on my list because I have not been disappointed with a single folder yet. Not only is the construction SOLID, but very intelligently designed in all the details. My Kershaw's are knives that I just don't have to worry about because performance is never an issue. BTW, my girl's gonna get me the ZT0300 for Christmas. I would NEVER ask her to spend so much for a knife on me if I did not feel it was well worth the price. So, thanks for the quality and service to all us consumers.

Psi, thanks very much for your complimentary words, we will keep working hard for you all.

I agree with Psi I have just recently started collecting knives but I own a couple of Kershaws and have been very pleased with them. Kershaw is at the top of my list. Also I would like to thank you Thomas for all the information you have given to all of us and me personally.

I have lock issues with the Offset I had one and with heavy pressure on the spine the lock failed (Holding the knife open in one hand and forcing it closed with the other) After that it rounded of the lock perch and the lock failed every time with light pressure. I feel it really needs a frame lock for a blade that large. Not to say my lock didn't have a defect but I couldn't see any except that the spring wasn't strong enough to hold the stud in place. I have never heard any other complaints about this problem but it turned me off and I never looked back. That blade shape is great though.

The spring shouldn't have an impact in holding the stud in place. In fact, with the knife in the locked position and letting just gravity pull the stud down, it should be exactly as strong. Lock designs are such that the force of closing the blade are perpendicular to the axis of actual lock travel.

Could anyone tell me the major difference (if any) in the 440c used in the Offset and the cpm154cm used in the zt0200.

Well, the ZT200 is one of the best knives I've ever seen (I've never handled one but I like everything about it though). The Offset is a rather interesting knife, but I think there's way too much gimmick in it. Call me old fashioned. :) For a user I'd go with the ZT.
