Hey!
Anybody know anything about this knife? I've actually had one on order for a couple months now and still haven't seen it. I'm not sure if there is a production problem at Kershaw or if it hasn't even gone into regular production yet. I know it won a knife of the year award last year (I think from Blade Mag). Anyone actually handled one (did it deserve this award) or know if they are actually in production right now? Any info would help as I'm trying to decide if I should just cancel the order or not...Thanks
Benny

benny,

The Kershaw Offset was in fact Blade Magazine's 2005 "Overall Knife of the Year". About 250 pieces have been shipped to date, and we are looking to produce and ship about 100-150 pieces a month.

The Offset is a challenging to produce, and here are some brief highlights of the knife:

*The feature that stands out with the Offset is that it is the first knife ever produced with our patented MIM (Metal Injected Molded)/HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressed) blade. The advantages to this process over conventional methods are that there is almost unlimited blade geometry possible - true 3D blades can now be achieved. You will notice with the Offset blade that there are two bevel geometries - hollow and flat. The spine of the blade also incorporates both convex and concave lines. Pretty sweet. Also, and IMO more important, custom materials/combinations of different types of materials are possible in short runs. This Offset was done with a 440C-PM blade.

*The Offset is our first "Double Pumper" SpeedSafe (assisted opening) that incorporates 2 torsion bars to ensure ease of opening this oversized blade.

*The Stud Lock is slick and not the norm.

* The Offset has 3-D machined anodized aluminum scales bring forth comfort in your hand.

The Offset offers a ton of features for a production knife. The MIM/HIP technology is a breakthrough in our industry, and I am surprised it has yet to get more play. Maybe the next generation MIM blades that we produce will it bring more attention. The future blade geometry with MIM technology is going to be incredible, and unlike anything we have seen to date.

Hopefully this answers a few of your questions benny, thanks for the interest.

Hey, thanks a lot Thomas, that all sounds pretty impressive...I'm just hoping that mine is going to finally come through sometime soon--I'm excited to get my hands on it. I've already been waiting for quite a while and whenever my dealer calls Kershaw, it always sounds a bit vague as to when I'll actually see it.. I really appreciate the response, though. I'll post a review when I get the knife...
Ben:) :) :)
