The knife looks great. but wut is with its blade shape. does it actually cut good? why is it designed that way?

it does its job very well actually. im sure others will elaborate even more. yes it was designed that way. look at ken onions custom offsets. you wont see to much difference in blade shape. get one, you wont be sorry (imo of course).

No bias there, right?;)

I have one and I have to agree though. It is a dandy knife that is, if not practical for EDC, often useful. It makes big pull cuts with ease b/c of the inside curve and is handy for all sorts of close in jobs b/c it has the outside curve. I haven't tried to use mine as a chopper or skinner, but, I think it would also do well at both those jobs. Wrap yer mits around one and you will be smitten. I think above all the thing that it does best is make you feel even more like a man. Offsets are just plain cool!

a great chopper! and more of a down and dirty BIG rough cutting kinda knife. sharpens easy, and has a killer confident grip

the thing for me is. lets say the normal blade shapes has been used for thousands of years, with small changes, but nothing this major. i agree this may be for good, but its hard to imagine no one has thought of this since the beginning.

That's why Ken Onion is in a class all his own.
The man is brilliant...brilliant I say.

Slightly off-topic....I'm about to buy an Offset and have a choice of the G10 or Aluminum grips. I've only had a chance to handle the Aluminum grips and I was a little worried that they felt slippery. Any comments / suggestions welcome.

Must say I rather like the look of both - guys in the gunshop call the Aluminum handled Offset the "Picasso knife". And the G10 looks really "all business" - also matches my Spec Bump. Choices...sigh!!!

If you are going to carry and use it a lot go with the G10 handle. Definitely much grippier, especially if your hands are wet or sweating. It does feel and handle like a fat Spec Bump.

If you will only use it occasionally and really want to make an impression, or it will be a safe queen, go with the Alu. I have to say though, there is something about first picking up that cold smooth metal handle.

Also unless something changes with the current production, there were (or will be) less of the gray bladed aluminum handled offsets (2nd run).

Also consider the first run 1 or 1000 knives if it is going into the collection. There are some available from various sources right now (fleabay and the exchange here) for just a few bucks more than the gray blade aluminum Offsets.
