Hey Guys....
Looking for another Great inexpensive knife ??
The Kershaw/Onion Echo is the ticket....
I'm not the best at reviews,,this is actually my 3rd attempt at this,,so it's going to be brief...What I like,,don't like about the knife...
The Echo is nicely made, Zytel scales, a flat ground recurve blade..I'm not real big on recurves,, this is actually my first,, I've avoided them like the plague,, but this one I like...
I guess you would say the blade has a Satin finish with nice makers etching, that is just about the right size...Some manufactures make their etch bigand gawdy..This is about right...
The knife was quite sharp out of the box,,but I did come up with a slight burr that was easily removed on the strop...
There were only a couple of things that bothered me about the knife..The first and major one for me (No not the sheath)
was the big bold Captial CHINA embossed on the side of the scale...
Within 30 seconds of holding the blade I knew it HAD to go...
This is something that seriously bothers me about some production knives... I know that maybe it's just me,,but I Won't be caught Dead wearing a knife that says China or Tiawan Anywhere on or near the knife. Knives I own like this have a standing appointment with the Bead Blaster, the first chance I get...
The CHINA on the Echo was quickly, easily, and permanently removed with little to no damage to the scales with some wet/dry paper on a popcicle stick, then a quick heat buff with the heat gun...
Anyway,,thats besides the point...
The Echo also has some serious potential to be semi customized with some nice micarta or G-10 scales..I think another one is in order as a winter project for myself...
As far as the sheath goes,,,Well........
Lets just say the sheath is the Weakest link for the Echo....and I Do Mean Weak!!
From my point of view, not from the point of view as a sheathmaker,,but as a consumer,,once I seen the sheath, that would be the end of it...The knife would get passed by...
On the other hand the way the scales are made on the Echo,,makes for a Great synthetic sheath,,with nice retention and lockup...Great for Any type of carry you could imagine...
All in all,,if you like recurves, this is an Excellent knife for the $30.00 dollar price point..Well made,,Excellent design by Ken and has many different uses as a knife should have..Self Densive, EDC, Hunting,,it will do it all..
Nice blade to have in the collection no doubt....
BTW..Thanks Flotsom..
