Kershaw Onion help

One of my buddies found a rather dirty Onion, and asked me to clean it up for him. After cleaning and reassembly the opening feels weaker, and the spring doesn't open it all the way. Is there a particular way to put it in or something like that? Everything looks good, the spring went in the way I found it and all that. There's a slight bend in the spring, going the "wrong" way right before the portion that fits into the blade, if that's relevant.

Is the blade movement smooth after re-assembly? Is the dedent ball oiled? If the scales don't line up or if the pivot is to tight it might not open all the way.

If the spring is a bit too weak (from age) that might be a problem to, but Kershaw is great with warranty maters, one email and you'll have a bag of parts. I broke the spring on my Leek and got 5 springs, 3 clips and a bunch of screws in the mail.

Good luck.

Assemble the knife without the assist spring and make sure the blade operates smoothly. If it does then you probably need a new spring. Make sure the pivot is not tight as previously mentioned as that can prevent smooth assisted opening.

I think they got it right. Loosen the pivot some and see how it works. If the pivot is loose and it still does the same thing
it may be the spring, assuming that it is definitely assembled properly.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

I checked the pivot and assembly without the spring. Will I be able to get the free parts even if my buddy found the knife in a old sofa, and I'm just cleaning it up for him?

Shouldn't be a problem to get the parts. In my experience Kershaw and Benchmade are extremely easy to get replacement parts from.

For those who were wondering, the weak assist cleared up overnight. I think the WD-40 might have been gumming things up and the problem was resolved after it dried.
