Anyone have any first hand experiences with this little knife. The Scallion looks like a nice little knife to keep in your pocket. I must admit that I am a little concerned as the price seems so low! Thanks.

Jay, I received the Kershaw Chive 2 days ago which is the Scallion's little brother, and it is a really cool little knife. The Chive has a stainless steel handle of frame lock design while the slightly larger Scallion has a polyamide handle of linerlock design. Both knives are "scary" sharp (like all Kershaw knives), but the steel is 420HC which explains the low price. Anyhow, despite the steel, they are very well made and very addictive. Get one or both and enjoy.

I got a Scallion yesterday, and I also own a Chive. Both knives are excellently-made. Though the Scallion's lock is a linerlock, as opposed to the Chive's framelock, it's very solid. Both are great for carry. I see the Chive as a sort of "gentleman's knife," and the Scallion could be that but is big enough as a main carry (it's a small knife; the Scallion's blade is under 2.5 inches, I think, but it seems a bit larger than that).

Is either or both the knives difficult to control when the Speed Safe kicks in? I have absolutely no problems with my Avalanche, but my Whirlwind reminds me every time I open it that I need to hang onto it.

Bugs, the Speed Safe feature on the Chive works quickly and well, but you don't have to worry about the knife flying off from your grip.

Bugs,
As long as you open the Chive using the blade guard it's fine, the thumbstuds on it are only the blade stops. On the Scallion, I find it's easy to either use the thumbstud or the bladeguard to get the blade started, and it doesn't feel out of control.

I have handled a Whirlwind and although I like it, I too felt a bit less control opening it.
Jim
