Amazingly better? Somehow I doubt that! It's hard to beat a Kershaw...TMHO...VWB.

Ive been carrying my kershaw skyline and it hasnt failed me yet perfect edc blade very sharp and reliable only costs about 35 dollars.

A serious Kershaw fan here.
Also, many times which knife is better, is pretty much whatever one you like more. Long time knife guy.

i love my sog spec elite in vg10 however we are in a small sector of the forum that like sog. i call them as i see them & i have had good results with the vg10.

I think it all depends on the usage. I wouldnt go as far as "amazingly better", but the Trident's blade is a better all around shape. Kinda hard to compare though, three totally different designs. Get it dirty! :D

For me, the Needs Work is a tough to beat EDC workin' knife. I have a trident that fell apart on me. Really dug the knife, but got disgusted when it shot its spring out in mid snap.

The leek is a nice classic Kershaw. My buddy has one, and he loves it. For me though, the nod goes to the Needs Work for blade shape, size, and rough use.

Thanks for the responses. I have carried the SOG and its a very good knife. The blade design would be a great defense weapon. I need a edc that is a work knife, so its back to the Kershaws, nothing bad toward SOG. Kershaw just tends to be a 'work knife' more. As you have noticed I am a 'noob' so thanks for the oppionions.

I've owned, carried and used a Leek and a Trident for work. The Trident is way better IMO. The Leek has an unuseful blade shape, the blade seemed thin and easy to bend, I think I did bend it. Didn't hold too great of an edge. The handle wasn't comfortable and it was very slippery. I lost it and never thought about getting another one.

The Trident has multiple blade shapes, a thicker blade, a better handle for working, and the AUS8A seemed a little better. I still have mine after like 6+ years. I thought I lost it a few times but I always found it somehow. It's survived drops from 30ft. I stopped using it and I tried to break it and I couldn't with normal use(abuse). Besides short of sticking the blade in something and snapping it off, this knife will take abuse.

Hi steampunk -

The Trident is a larger knife and has more of a "tacti-cool" look to it than the Leek, but a Leek can look mean if it is black (my opinion).

The Leek is much slimmer and has a completely different blade style, and is more suited to carrying in slacks, althought the Trident is very light for it's size.

A good friend of mine just bought a Trident for carrying while hunting to field dress game, a task for which the Leek is not really suited IMO.

I will say that I don't think SOG quality is up to Kershaw standards at this point in time.

best regards -

I couldnt kill my Needs Work no how. But just to carry something different I put it away and EDC a SOG Flash ll now. Im really liking the Flash II.

See how you like it.

It may not be a great blade, but the blade shape on the Trident just looks so cool.

most people i know, including myself, dislike the Leek's blade shape simply because the edge is flat and only gets use on one part of the edge, which causes sharp and dull spots on the edge, no big deal, just a pain to sharpen part of the blade. personally i like the rest of the knife's design including fast assisted opening, but i can't bring myself to spend $50-ish for a knife i don't fully like (i've handled one in a store)

Huh? I own and have owned several Leeks and never had a problem with the edge or the blade shape. I don"t think I have even heard that as a complaint on the Leek maybe its your sharpening technique??

I like their designs, but I'm not a fan of SOG steel. I used a Seal 2000 for about 4 years. It took one heck of an edge but was on it's way to dull after one good use. Still, not the worst knife ever, I just expected more for $100.

Wait, what?

I use a smoky blue leek as my dress knife. The thing works perfectly for what I use it for. The odd cutting job, opening packages and those annoying sealed baggies electronics parts come in, sharpening pencils to cutting food. The blade shape suits me fine. Add to that a very light, nicely shaped handle and excellent opening action it is hard to beat and fits really well in the pocket.

Is it a heavy EDC use knife? No. That's why I have a Kershaw Blur. If anything though that is occasionally too big for some of my purposes, but the blade shape is great in the field or doing outdoorsy activity. I haven't come close to bending the Leek's blade. That just seems odd. At times, I think the designs of many EDC blades are too thick.

The SOG trident really has nothing over the Leek that I would consider essential. It a little longer if you need an extra little length and I like the top ramp on the design for grip, but I can get a Leek for $35 and a G10 handled with S30V steel blade for $20 more. I can't do that with an SOG trident. It really just not worth the extra money for me.
