kershaw outcast or a rd9

The Ranger RD9 is a great knife; a semi-custom made in the USA.

It's a far higher quality tool than the Kershaw Outcast which, at best, is a decent big blade.

Well all other things aside, 5160 is going to be MUCH tougher than D2. Not to mention the Ranger is 1/4 thick and the Kershaw is 1/8.

Here's a short review of the Outcast highlighting differences between it and the Becker Brute. The reviewer pegs the Outcast's blade thickess at 3/16", not 1/8". It's a pretty big hunk of D2 steel, and no performance slouch.

Some additional comparison points with the Ranger...the Outcast is more easily found for sale, and can be had for around $60. The Outcast and the Ranger are really almost in different classes, though...

Ray :)

The Outcast is 3/16" thick and it's no match for the RD-9...but still it's a decent blade!!!

yeah, I'm not sure how much I trust that review...
well, not that I don't trust it, it's just that I've heard way different things by people I trust more.

I'd def. go with an rd9...
I love mine.
:D
