Kershaw Outcast Problem

I recently purchased an Outcast and upon receiving it, I noticed that the edge had a HUGE/ WIDE angle. If I had to guess, it would be slightly larger than 35 degrees. I understand D2 has to have a wider angle at the cutting edge, but this made it dull and really, you could firmly hold the edge and not be worried with cutting your hand. I have had trouble re-beveling it, but this isn't surprising because it is D2. I normally, use and like my knives to have a 20-25 degree edge. Is it possible to do it with D2 (this is my first D2 knife) and if so, what methods would make it happen?

Thanks

thats a typical outcast edge. thick and obtuse. the only thing to do is thin it down with a belt sander and convex the edge. d2 is hard to work down by hand. i have done 2 so far for members and a thinned down convex edge works the best. if you want to see pictures of an outcast i done send me an email and i'll send you some pictures. rje196021@gmail.com

I don't understand why the Outcast's come with such a thick edge. Does anyone know if there is a reason for it?

JTC, so people who don't know what they are doing with the blade can beat the snot out of it and not complain about it chipping or breaking:p If you know enough to "thin it out" like OP odds are you know what you are doing and won't abuse it. Convexing the edge like Richard suggest has 1 other benefit it really helps keep the blade from binding or sticking when you chop real deep into wood.

Well maybe you don't understand...JTC...if an edge has a V or something similar that is convexed, that is fine, but what actually has happened is that the angle of the cutting edge is so large/wide/ obtuse (whatever word you prefer) that it isn't sharp. I was asking for info about re-beveling a large D2 blade and what angle is best for a large D2 knife. If you don't know, regular D2 has large carbides which make it so that small angles around 20 and less, sometimes 25 and less, chip because of the structure. I am fine with a nice sharp 25-30 degree edge, even if it is convexed. It is just my first D2 knife and I am asking experts...
