I bought a used Kershaw OUTCAST form a forum member.

Upon arrival I noticed the blade was bent.

I sent it to Kershaw asking them to straighten it.

I got it back today with a note stating the #1079(OUTCASTS) were not made in the USA and they could not repair the bend.

Remember that if you ever decide to purchase an OUTCAST.

Bend is perhaps 5-8 degrees--Impossible not to notice.

Just FYI

I seriously doubt it left their facility in that condition. I would be talking to the seller.

That's too bad. I wonder if the country of origin is really the issue though.
Also hope the forum member who sold you the blade didn't misrepresent it.
Find it strange that the blade would take a set rather than just snap.

aloha doc, i had one with a bend in it too, tried to bend it back with no luck, but that blade aint for you ,the blade is weak, tried to cut a 2" sapling an my blade broke, looked like someone bit the blade there was a 2"half moon piece missing.

It came to me bent--
The owner told me he never noticed it.

So far I'm out $45 for the purchase of the used knife and $11.05 to mail it to Kershaw.

I'd take this up with the seller, not Kershaw. The seller won't refund your money? Also, if the seller refuses to refund the money i'd take a trip on over to the Good, Bad, and Ugly.

I'll sell it for $35--just to get rid of it.

...everyone here OBSESSES on their knives; so that seller is a lying BS'er for saying he never noticed it...man, i do hate liers...

I gotta agree, it was noticed before sale. I have one that is straight as an arrow, and I've tried my best to kill it without success:

J_Curd, love that pic. Is that one convexed? I really have to get around to having that done to mine. FWIW, I have wailed on my Outcast (removed a ton of invasive mulberry trees since purchase) with no ill effects. The edge even stays nice and sharp after a fair bit of use. I've only had to touch it up with a diamond stone once.

the outcast isnt that bad a knife for chopping. convexing the edge does improve the way it chops since they tend to be thick edged.

If I was in your situation and was stuck with the knife I would be treating it as a project. Take the handle off anneal the steel, straighten the blade, temper, harden and then make a new handle out of something special.

I guess it helps if you know someone who has a forge.

It sure is, even more so now, that pic is old. Mine is wicked scary sharp, I could shave my head with it...it took quite a bit of work even with a 1x30 belt sander...the D2 in that knife is some of the toughest I have personally used. It barely dulls even when I miss and hit rocks. Super knife.

For the price it should be in any knife lovers collection.

Mine is definitely an ugly duckling by comparison, but it works. I need to send a couple of pieces to you soon...want to redo a Ranger RD-7? :D

For what it's worth, I have a NIB Outcast that has a little bend to it. Probably a few degrees. I don't think it would matter in actual use.

I suspect that this may be due to some warping during heat treating.
