Kershaw PackRat from Amazon?

Welcome to Bladeforums Chris.
Hmm, where to begin. Choosing a knife for everyday carry can be somewhat complicated at times. What are you planning to use the knife for/primary use? Do you know how to sharpen a knife? Do you like in a place with restrictions on blade length?
My vote would be for the Kershaw Skyline, Leek, Shallot, Blur or Nrg. For Spyderco, look at the Delica, Tenacious, Peristance, Resiliance. Nothign wrong with Amazon, nut I would not buy knives from there. They pretty much just drop ship your stuff. A real knifestore will sell you something that more than likely has been inspected.

If that is definitely the one you want, I would not hesitate buying it from Amazon.
Particularly so since it is labeled "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com".
I have bought many knives from Amazon and never had a problem. However, if you do, you have free shipping and free return shipping if you're unhappy for any reason.

Kershaw makes great stuff, but you might want to look around here for other ideas. RevDevil mentioned some good alternatives, and there are many others.

But then it's only $40, and a good knife you will probably never regret owning.

To answer RevDevil - I have no restrictions on blade length. I can't decide if I want a really long bladed knife or a small compact knife? Weight really isn't an issue though I do like heavier beefier knives. The reason I want to use Amazon is because it usually has really good prices. I really don't want to spend more than $45 tops. This is my first *nice* knife and I don't want to drop a massive pile o' dough. If you would like to link some sites that have awesome prices I would appreciate it.

The two main knives I am looking at right now are the Kershaw Scallion or Kershaw Packrat. I really don't like the looks of any Spyderco knives. Sorry, but it's my preference. However I am open for suggestions. I will just be using it for just some random cutting and light work. It HAS to be SPRING ASSISTED! That is the reason I am buying one, I love the spring assisted knives. Also, I would really prefer that the clip is either tip up or switchable so I can make it tip up.

Thanks, guys for your help. This would be a grueling process without ya'll.

Kreole: Thanks. I didn't see that you could zoom in. :D

Unfortunately, posting what you are asking for is against the rules. It's called deal spotting. Like free advertising on the backs of those dealers that do support the forums by paying a yearly membership. I will say that you should check out Kershawguy on the forums here if you have your heart set on a Kershaw. He often has many knives for sale and the prices are slightly less than some knife stores. He often sells "blems" too, these are knives with very minor cosmetic blemishes that are difficult to spot with the untrained eye.
As I say, saving $5 can turn around and bite you in the keister, if you get a bad knife you will have to send the knife back and go through that hassle and it would be on your dime (there goes your savings). That is precisly why you should just spend what you need to spend, since it is your first nice knife. You don't want to take chances with that kind of thing.

Another vote here for Kershawguy. I've gotten a couple knives from him one be a zero tolerance and man talk about fast shipping and even the factory 2nd i got from him looks perfect I can't find a single flaw.

Welcome to BF Chris! Before long you'll be saying all you want to spend is $145, and it only goes up from there......so be prepared as it is a ride!!

You might want to look at a Kabar Phat Bob folder. Looks to be the best recreation of a Bob Dozier folder.

Kershaw is good. Kershawguy is great!

Here is a pic of the Phat Bob;

I looked through his lists and I saw a Packrat. But the one he has is a factory blemish and it is only $4 cheaper. For now, it looks like Amazon is where I want to go.

I looked through his lists and I didn't see a Packrat. So it looks like Amazon is where I want to go.

Kershawguy is a great suggestion and he's always worth checking. He has very good prices, particularly on blems.

But honestly, for what you want to spend and what you want to buy it's going to be fairly hard to beat Amazon price wise. They are very hard to compete with in the more common items and brands. If you limit your selection to those labeled "Ships from and sold by Amazon", you should avoid any hassles.
When you factor in free shipping for both purchase and return, its pretty hard to compete with them in this type item.

You probably could find something comparable at a local Gun/Knife show if you have any in your area.

I live in Hickville. OK it's not that bad, but the point being, I have several gun/knife shows coming in like three or four weeks. I don't think I want to wait that long...

I have bought several knives from Amazon with no problems. As stated, buy from Amazon itself and you should not have any issues. Plus, you can return it with no hassles if there is a problem with it.

The Packrat is a great knife! I like the feel of it and the upswept Persian style blade cuts very well. Another great Ken Onion design.

Kershaw will stand behind their products of you have a problem with it.
