Hi all, normally I would have posted this in the Kershaw sub forum, but since its closing  I thought I would just post it here.
Ok, Ive been eye balling the packrat for a little while now and was wondering if anybody could post a few pics with it side by side with either a RAM or a Zing (or both!:D). Also I wanted to see one with the clip positioned for tip-up carry if anyone has one.
Thank you all in advance.

Sorry for the bad scan job, but here ya go.

The liner lock measures .060 and it has two contact points.
It engages with the blade tang as well as the flipper.

i wish kershaw would stop putting that crappy beadblast finish on all of their knives

+1:thumbup:

It would, however, increase the cost. That said, with a little time (and sandpaper) invested, you can have a decent satin finished blade.;)

hmmmmmm that might make me less want to get those.

Frankly, I have not had much of an issue, I attribute it to the A/O mechanism holding the blade in place very well.. something that, for whatever reason, isn't as well done on the few Leeks I have. HOWEVER, I have carried my Leek without the safety engaged plenty of times, through a few rough-and-tumble games of football (soccer to you Yanks) among other things.

Course... better safe than otherwise right?

true, I've had my leek off the safety a couple times and nothing happened, but it seems just a little to easy to push that flipper up against the seam of my jeans pocket when im moving my hand in and out.

Jake, It takes probably about 3 times more pressure to get the
PackRat and Shallot to flip. I don't use the safety on my Leeks
and have never had one open in my pocket. Not saying it can't
happen, It just hasn't happened to me. I guess the reason the
Leek and smaller AO's have a safety is the fact that it doesn't
take much pressure to get them started. The larger AO's like the
ones mentioned above, the Blur and some others take a pretty good
bit more effort. If you can find a place that has them on hand, try
one out. You might just change your mind. The PackRat is one
sweet knife that at least deserves a test drive. ;)

I've had the Skyline (flipper) open in my pants, but never the Leek or any other AO...

I bought a Packrat and returned it to Kershaw a few days later. The photos above show how close the thumb studs are to the handles. That's the problem. I was completely unable to open the knife using the thumb studs with my left hand. It was possible but not comfortable to open with my right hand. The difference is on the left side (which you would engage with your right hand for opening) the handle scale is relieved to allow access to the liner lock.

I would not buy this knife unless you will only open it with the flipper. What a shame. I had high hopes for this knife. I also wish it were a bit larger, which is unusual for me to say because I generally prefer small knives.

This is true with almost any liner/frame-lock with thumb studs. This is a big reason I don't own thumb stud only knives with that lock.
