Hey guys, I have a ? about Kershaws. I just received my new Shallot today and a Boa a few weeks ago. Any trick to removing the pivot? Just seems to spin with no apparent way (to me) to fix the side opposite the torx screw in place.
One options is to put pressure on the spine on a table while attempting to break the loctited pivot free. Another is to boil a cup of water and submerge the the blade all the way to the pivot and heat up the loctite to soften it up. Both ways have worked, and it's really not that hard.
Those suggestions work and here's another. Vigorously open the blade in the locked position. This causes pressure to be placed on the pivot and may hold it tight enough to break the pivot free.
I have used all three suggested tips here and at least one has worked at one time or another. On two occasions nothing worked and I was forced to send it in for repair. The benefit of that was a fixed knife, new hardware and a screaming sharp edge as is common with Kershaw.
But if you own any Kershaw AO's you will have to learn the tricks to replacing the torsion bar at one time or another. Most are very easy but there is a learning curve. The Shallot is an easy one to dissemble and you will learn a lot by doing it.
