I sent a Kershaw Tanto Groove in for repair to Kershaw Warranty dept. The Groove had bladeplay and was not very sharp. The knife I sent in had aug 08 on the flipper. It also had rj martin on one side of the blade, and the model number 1730blk.The other side of the blade had kershaw in white on the blade. I called and asked for the status of the knife and the lady at kershaw said the knife was repaired and was in the mail. I recieved the knife today and it was not my original knife. The new knife had no born date on the flipper, or any writing on the blade at all. It was a plain black blade with no nothing on it. The new knife was razor sharp and I am very pleased. What Tanto Groove did I recieve?? Is this a brand new tanto groove?? Are all the newer Kershaws without born dates, designer name etc?? Any help would be appreciated, thanks...

Yep, Kershaw stopped putting born-on dates on the blades not too long after your first Groove was made. The replacement you received, which doesn't have a date on the flipper, must be one of the more recently made ones. :)

Congratulation you are victim of Kershaw's outstanding customer service.

The newer knives don't have a born on date, and the one you sent in probably had the 13c26 steel and your new one will have the 14c28 (an upgrade). Though I would have thought it would have had "Kershaw" write on it. It may be considered a "sterile" blade like the ZDP-189 Blur I picked up. At any rate, use it and enjoy it.

I appreciate the excellent customer support for sure!! I assume it is the newer 14c28 sandvic steel. Yeah it just puzzled me there were no other markings on the new knife. No kershaw, model number, designer etc. Maybe they replaced the old blade with a blade used for repair blades and not marked for retail. The new knife has wear on the pocket clip and I think I did that. I am starting to think they just replaced the blade and the handle was my original handle. Either way it is razor sharp and I am pleased, just a little puzzled.

Good deal.

This is a another reason why I never have any regrets pulling the trigger on a new Kershaw knife. Their CS is top notch.

This is probably the reason that my whole collection is just kershaws and ZTs. If i break a knife, i do not have the money to go buy another one. I can afford not having the knife for a while so that it can have a new blade or part put on, but i can't afford buying a new knife. my name is steven, and i am a kershawaholic.

In the last month I have bought a scallion, got a skyline for fathers day and bought 2 blurs 1 p/e and 1 serrated. I too am a Kershawholic lol.

That's what i love about Kershaw, every time you send in a knife they meet or exceed your expectations. I remember they asked me if the knife had any sentimental value, i said no, so they send me a knew knife. great service.
