Kershaw R.A.M, blade has slight play in open position?

Hi I just got my new Kershaw R.A.M knife. When I open it and it locks if I press against the back of the blade there is a tiny bit of play top to bottom. There is no play side to side. When I do move it I can see the thumb release move as well. I can move the blade enough to hear a noise back and forth when I do it.

Is this normal and if not is it something I can fix?

thanks!

I've never taken apart a RAM, so I don't know if it can be adjusted, but I have a couple, and neither one has any play in it that you describe. They lock up tight. So, I don't think it's normal. You could try adjusting the pivot screw, to see if that helps.

If you can't fix it yourself, Kershaw's warranty service is excellent.

I think I know what you're talking about. I have four RAMs, a MUDD and a ZT0650st. The 0650 has the same thing you describe, a slight vertical blade play. It's barely noticeable and does not affect lockup, so I don't worry about it.

If it does bother you, Kershaw CS will take good care of you. Before sending it in, try taking it apart and cleaning/re-lubing the mechanism. A chunk of debris in front of the lock could cause this effect.
