I am going to buy the Kershaw Leek in the near future. After reading the reviews here, and seeing its price, it sounds like an ideal EDC for lighter applications. To those of you that have a Kershaw with the rainbow finish, how does it hold up? I like the appearance, at least in pictures, but does it tend to get scratched the way some of the other black finishes do?

The finish of my rainbow leek has held up very well, no scratches at all over the couple of months of daily carry.

My experience with the Rainbow leek is the same as Uncleknife.

I received one back in december, have had no problems with the finish wearing off (and I can, at times, be hard on my knives, as far as scratching, ect.). You will not be dissappointed if you purchase one!

I does hold up very well. You can get some VERY TINY scuff marks in it if you carry it deep pocket with loose change :o , but it's very durable, much more so than teflon or other stuff. Besides, it just looks TOO COOL!:D

And it has held up against all manner of abuse, aside from slight wear lines from opening and closing (there might have been a small amount of grit in the packaging). The finish is of good quality, and I like it so much I went and purchased a rainbow Leek.

Just keep it away from acidic substances such as fruit. You can cut fruit, just make sure you clean the blade good enough so the finish isnt eaten away. Correct me if Im wrong but isn't it the same treatment as the rainbow balisong benchmade produced?

I read that the finish is Titanium Oxide. I don't know much about Titanium Oxide, but if its in any way related to Titanium Nitride, then it should hold up quite well. Titanium Nitride is around 80 Rc, and can only be worn away with very hard substances (although minor scratches remain visible even after you clean it).

I've been looking at the Rainbow Leek myself, but I have been wondering why the Avalanche and Boa use CPM S60V - and are relatively low priced knives for that steel - but the rest of the Ken Onion line only uses 440A or 420HC, and they cost a lot for that steel. Although I do love the sharpness and precision of the Kershaw factory edge.

Buy the Rainbow Leek!!! :D

Mine still looks like new; I carry it in my back pocket where there is no change, etc. to scratch it, but the finish seems very tough.

It came very sharp and was easy to make scary sharp. I have no complaint with the knife as it is, but I sure wish they would make a run of this Onion line in premium steels.

I have the black boron Chive, a green aluminum Scallion, and the Rainbow Leek. Fun knives and everyone that sees them wants one.

Take it easy,
Bob

I have been EDC'ing the Rainbow Leek for about a month now. There are few minor nicks from keys and change, but you have to look pretty close to see them. Since I consider this knife a "user", I don't mind so much.

A few weeks ago I was at a client site, and while up on a stepladder managed to drop it onto a cement floor twice. I was amazed that I couldn't even tell by looking at the knife where it hit!

I think the coating is pretty tough.

I got a question ??
Does the rainbow finish show fingerprints ?

I have a chive and the black finish shows every little smudge.

Jack

Yes, the smudges show up pretty badly, I've had mine about a week and i can see some small breaks in the finish already,

Great knife overall, perfect size, but if you want to keep it mint, just leave it in the box...
