Has anybody tried the kershaw rainbow leek, chive, etc.? I tried a chive a little while ago and man was it hard to close! Very slippery. I kind of felt stupid standing at the knife counter trying to shut a blade so simple as the chive. Do the larger leeks and such have the same issue?

Also, those finished have a way of getting magnetized somehow. The GF liked the colors on the rainbow Leek, but when she saw that dimes would stick to it she got an OCC Leek instead.

I never really had that problem with my Leek. You definitely won't have that problem with a Rainbow Groove :D

Dimes are not magnetic...
The coating won't make it any more slippery, at least not for 99% of people that have them. Maybe you need to try again, except use the fat of your finger, not the back of your fingernail...

You must've gotten hold of some Canadian dimes they're made out of 92% steel.

I know how to close a knife... I think it was because it was small. I was wondering if the larger ones hadcthe same prob. Theres no jimping on it. My gf also liked it but i told her what i told you guts.

My 15 year old daughter loves her rainbow chive. I just asked her if she has any problems closing it, she said she didn't. I tried it (I have large hands, size 14 ring) I also had no problem. So I asked my 9 year old son to close it he had the same result but now he wants one so I have a small problem. So no one here seems to have any problem closing a rainbow chive here. Maybe it was you?:D

Again asking the household chive expert, my daughter she hasn't had any problems with the knife being magnetized. She has EDC'd the knife every day (in her purse) for a little more than a year. So no sticking dimes here.

The rainbow is TiNi coating or something like that, I heard from my local knife geek at the trading post that it is super scratch resistant, but the finish wears off very fast with EDC. He said its mostly a gentlemen's or collectors knife.

I have not found a single problem with the coating on my leek. It has worn a lil but around the edges but not really a noticeable amount. I really like the knife.

I have a rainbow Leek that closes as easily as my uncoated one, and I edc'd it for almost 6 months with no wear to the coating what so ever, it still looks brand new. No scratches or anything.

I bought my 15 year old sister a rainbow chive for her b-day not long ago, and she loves it. It is slipperier than say, my G-10 Tyrade, but that's simply because the knife is of smooth metal coating, not a textured surface. But still...no problem closing it. I can get some pretty good friction on it. Just work on your technique!

the little bugger opens bloody quick and has a little pop to it when opening, pretty fun! I love Kershaw's torsion-bar assist, and my sister loves how it's so tiny and cute...haha.

I'm a Canadian resident.

On a personal note, I think form follows function when it comes to knives. A pretty knife is a working one, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll be a visitor to your beautiful country in less than a week. Hope to eat some french fries and gravy and catch some fish. ;)

Personally, I agree, form follows function, but if a "pretty" knife shows a non-knife user the utility of owning and carrying a pocket knife, then so much the better. :D

I've never found the Rainbow Leek or the Rainbow Chive to be slippery at all.
And I have no problem closing them.

Y'know what? I never learned to like that poutine stuff. I like my fries with ketchup. Fishing here sure is good, though.

Never thought about that. Good point.
(Still, a pink-handled knife is as far as I'm willing to go that way.)
