Kershaw RAM oil?

Just bought a Kershaw RAM and love it, no issues (touch wood). Silky smooth opening, opens fast, super sharp, etc. The Kershaw site says to oil it with WD40, 3-in-1 or Gun Oil. I like WD-40 because I have it, and it's worked before. I haven't added anything yet because I've had bad experiences with adding the wrong oil to the wrong washers - I had a cheap knife with plastic washers (probably nylon) and when I put tri-flow on it, it seized up so tight it was hard to open, even with two hands. I had to disassemble and put WD-40, and it worked fine. Which do you recommend, gun oil, WD-40, etc? Apparently gun oil is better, but how?

Also, I'd like to open it up and look inside, but the torx screw at the hinge is especially tight. I don't want to break things; is it lock-tited and should I heat it? Or is it just tight and I should try harder?

Thanks again.

I use 3 in 1 for every knife I own. I used it on a cheap Gerber paraframe something that required two hands to open. With disassembly, cleaning, and breaking in the Gerber now opens like a A/O. Weird. This doesn't mean that 3 in 1 is the best oil. It is just what I use. EDIT: I have also used it on my two RAMS. Made them both smoother, in my opinion.

I usually use 3 in 1 or Hoppe's on my knives. In my opinion, Hoppe's no. 9 is the very best oil to put on your knives - it smells nicest. ;) :D

What oil you use really makes very little difference - just about any oil meant for mechanisms seems to do the trick. I just use whatever happens to be within arm's reach.

Hoppes all the way! My ram had loctite on all the torx. Make sure you are using the right size and you should be good. My pivot is just finger tight for best deployment. I have to always check it before i put it away, almost lost it once!

OK I just (finally) got the 3-in-1 and torx T6 and T8. The T8 works fine and I had to use lots of muscle to get the hinge un-loctited. What about the screws holding down the scales? I mean, I think I just stripped the screwdriver trying to get it undone and it didn't budge. :c (I hope it was the screwdriver and not the screws, the screwdriver looks pretty messed up). What do I do? Heat?

Yes on the heat, use a hair dryer/heat gun or soldering iron. Don't use the torx driver if it is stripped.
