Kershaw RAM or ZT 0650ST

Hello there. I am new in this amazing forum!

I need some help... I am still knowing about Kershaw knives (life for me was just SOG and Spyderco knives...).

Excuse me about my ignorance, but what are the differences between the Kershaw RAM and the ZT Grant & Gavin Hawk designed 0650ST ??

I mean... I saw that the handle and locking mechanism is different, but the blade shape looks the same for me...

And what about the blade metal ? And overall size ??

I am looking for a good EDC blade. And I gotta say the RAM design is so cool... I want a new (and sturdy) good knife to EDC.

So, can you guys give some advice between these models ?
If someone can post some pics too, I´ll be grateful.

Thanks in advance...

Regards!

LG

Actually the Ram is non-assisted! The 0650 and the Ram both use the same 'locking' mechanism, but use different methods for opening. The Ram uses a flipper, with just the right amount of resistance, which builds up kinetic energy to flip the knife open. The 0650 is an automatic knife, but with a new wrinkle. There is a safety mechanism that is built into the firing button. So disengaging the safety and firing the knife can be done in one fluid motion. As opposed to a separate safety mechanism that has to be disengaged before the knife can be used.

Welcome to the Kershaw sub!

Well, you can't get much better info than from the designer!

Now to muddy the waters, so to speak, look in between the price points and consider the MUDD. Not an automatic nor assisted opening, but has the same lock system as the RAM and 0650. As spiral said, they open so smoothly, with very little practice, they act almost like an assisted! PLUS, the pivot is completely sealed from outside elements.

The MUDD is a fantastic knife!

Welcome to our world!

Thanks for the welcome you all...

I saw the MUDD too, but I didn´t know about those sealed pivot. That´s a great idea! I will consider it too before I buy the next piece...

About the RAM and the ZT0650ST, is there any difference in their blades ? (metal, hardness, coating, shape, size, etc...)

Is there a thread here with some pics of the Kershaw RAM ?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link, Gavin.

And yes, they are already selling the RAM with the DLC coating! It´s a beautiful black blade! :D

FLG, There was a thread around here somewhere showing a retailer advertising the black DLC coated RAM in 14C28N. The site's description matched that of the Kershaw site, so I called them and they said they were in stock, sooo....

:D :p :p

Yeah. Remember Thomas' silly "fifth person to say 'I'll take it' contest" in the middle of a thread? I believe it was you that said, "Way to kill the thread, Thomas," or something to that effect.

So, Thomas, what's the score on the blade steel? Is the 1910CKT's blade 13C26 or 14C28N? I'm all confuseth.

I remember the thread, but I don't think I posted in it.

Yeah! What's the deal with the steel?

nice looking pictures riffraff!! :) stll wainting for my R.A.M. to get here! seems my payment is lost in the mail. :(

13C26 on that one riffraff.
Thanks for the info, Thomas, and thanks for the knife! My first G&G Hawk Design model, I'm impressed how smoothly the blade locks into place. Lock-up is solid, with zero play. A little smaller than I expected it to be, probably because my only other exposure to a Hawk knife was the MUDD. I suspect the RAM will be much more EDC-able (is that a word?), though. Very nice. Thanks again!

Edited to add: I also love the design of the blade's spine. Much more 'fun" than the average drop-point.
